ive been on the pill since i was in high school, but due to an insurance problem ive recently had to stop taking it.are condoms enough to keep me protected, or should i dish out the extra money to just continue on the pill as well?

Reliability of condoms

Condoms have a higher rate of failure. Whether the risk is worth it is up to you.According to research by the Alan Guttmacher Institute in 1995, under real-life conditions, the pill has a failure rate of 8%, and the male condom has a failure rate of 14% (per year). If you're really good about taking the pill every day and at the same time, the failure rate is much lower, prbably 1% or less (per year). 1% versus 14% is a factor of 14.That means that you have a 14 times as great chance getting pregnant using a condom alone rather than the pill alone, if you're really good about taking the pill. That's a huge difference. Of course, you're even better off if you use them both at the same time.
