yes i understand that, but why would a phyco bother with black markets and illegal gun purchasing when he can go to walmart? I understand that its only part of the picture, but right now, its a key part of the puzzle to limit access to firearms, even just the leagal ones, and then start busting up the illegal rackets

There are laws against drugs, but we see it everyday. There are laws against drunk driving, but we see it everyday. There are laws against molesting children, raping, hitting, and the list goes on, but it doesn't stop the ones who do it!I forgot who wrote it, that you can not break the law, only break yourself against the law...Law abiding citizens are the ones who, we need NOT worry about, the law breakers, are gonna do it either way. It's not that easy for me to get a handgun...but I know SEVERAL people who have them that shouldn't.....But that is because, I don't want one illegally..

I can have my hands on an illicit hand gun by the weekend... and I have nice friends

Where there are strict controls on guns there is of course a black market; but entry into this black market is far more difficult than, for example, getting illegal drugs, because the market is far smaller. The average disturbed individual doesn't have the contacts.
The argument that if guns are freely available then people will not go on the rampage is negated by experience. Handguns in Virginia are freely available, but none were apparently used against the gunman. Even if all the other students had been armed, the gunman had the advantage of surprise. Furthermore, since gunmen in these incidents usually shoot themselves, fear of being shot would not be an effective deterrent.
-
No, they may not have the contacts, so, instead, they break into a neighbors home, who they know is a hunter, and steal their guns. I still think that no matter the laws, unless respect, self-respect, and accountability is taught at home, it is going to be a growing issue.
-
I could too, if I wanted...There is only one gun I want my hands on right now..tsk tsk, and I can't really hurt anyone with it when it goes off!!!

With correct storage techniques, it is highly improbable to extract a working firearm from a house. A good gun safe is VERY hard to get into without damaging the firearms inside.Unfortunately; too many people keep a loaded, unlocked firearm in their closet, under the bed, in the desk etc. Putting a trigger lock on them makes them a REAL pain in the ass to get access to, locking the gun up in a safe makes acquiring firearms this way too risky for the pay off.

I haven't stopped watching the news since. my brother's best friend goes to that school and my brother's been calling him but he won't answer nor will his family. so hopefully he's ok. I truly feel for those families suffering. you can never trust the quiet ones. that's why I usually try to make friends with them. if they're willing

Very true. I grew up with a huge walk in gun safe. No one was gonna get into that and they sure as heck weren't gonna pack it out.I was just taught how and when to handle a gun. My perspective comes from being a raised to be a responsible gun owner...Sadly, too many are not.

There is a list (not official, but pretty accurate) on Facebook of the deceased if you want to check. There are those that are still "missing" too though.

Well, Fox News has once again stepped up to claim their position as complete idiots! I don't know whats worse, that they put Jack Thompson on air at all, or that they described him as being a "School-shooting expert"!!Yep, despite the fact that he's a known liar, infamous for threatening fellow attorneys and judges and is on the cusp of (one would hope) losing his license to practice law in Florida, Jack Thompson managed to weasel his way onto Fox News to spew his own particular brand of hate and lies. That's right, Thompson is trying to link the worst shooting in U.S. history to video games!
-
Well, I guess this is called progress; 50 years ago they would have blamed the shooting on different 'undesirable' races.I love the "expert" title (Since they are self-proclaimed).I'm an expert in the field of neuroendocrinology wait till I get on Fox. I generally agree that Fox news is the most psychotic and radical broadcast available this side of Al Jazer. I often tune to it just to laugh.

oh c'mon Bobby
you know that if it wasn't for moronic pundantry, Americans would never understand current events. -
There should be a charity set up to send free international newspapers to every household in America, and an Oxford Dictionary for every citizen.

Quote: I believe we should quit trying to increase gun control and start relaxing it. Ummm no. Though I am all for people having the right to bare arms etc (I come from a family who hunts and owns many guns), I don't think we can get anymore relaxed than we already are. Most states, as long as you are a US citizen without a felony you can buy a guy, which is how this student was able to purchase both of his guns. But again I am not saying that I think more strict gun control laws is the save all, because truthfully it's not. I cannot even say better parenting is the save all because you can have great parents, and than snap because of the way your fellow peers treat you (Or whatever the scenario is). What I do hope to see out of all this is tighter securities on campuses. I strongly feel (and have for a long time) that campus security should be able to have firearms, and I think there needs to be MORE campus security. Also want to see more strict lockdown procedures in place, because in this situation if there was a permanent lockdown after the two students in the dorm where murdered, many of this other murdered students would not have happened. Just my thoughts for the morning

so your saying that you should start arming your collage, university, and even highschool students incase some guy goes nuts so a bunch of 16 year olds can commit murder? is that what your saying?
-
Well here is a question for you: Why should Americans have the right to bare arms?

I think a lot of it for many American's comes down to hunting and for protection. I feel we should be allowed to protect ourselves, inside out own homes. But that's where it should be left. And even than there should be requirements on how to safely store a weapon, not to mention use the weapon.I don’t know Bob it's a good question, but that question is going to get a different response depending on the person and their viewpoint. One can simply say its part of out constitution lol.

I understand people wanting protection in their own home, but why not just spend money on decent home security rather than on a gun?I dunno, I've just nevre understood the gun culture in America, it doesn't really make any sense. Its like everyone wants a gun simply because they have the right to have one!

Last night on PrimeTime, they touched the issue of gun control. They said that Virginia was very lax as far as gun sales were concerned. NY is upset becasue most gun crimes in NY involve guns bought in Virginia. All you need are 2 ID's and no criminal record and you have a gun in about 20-30 minutes. Also they said that in Australia, they had shooting sprees on average every 18 months up until 1990(?). They enacted tougher gun control and they haven't had any major incidents since that time.I'm against banning gun ownership, but feel that there should be a more strict procedure in the purchasing process.
