Well there are really two things I want to do here. First of all, since I just turned 18 I've decided that it's probably as good a time as any to start getting in shape since I haven't really done anything since I was 14. I have a treadmill at home and a mat for doing sit-ups etc., but I'm not really sure how to go about getting in a routine that would work for me - I've been told by someone to run 2 miles every other day on the treadmill but tbh that is really too much for me, and if I did it, I don't think I could follow through with any other exercises. So I thought maybe a run/jog for 15 mins every other day and then do 30 sit ups and 10 pushups? or 3 times a week? or ...maybe not that much? Maybe there's some other better way to exercise that I don't even know. ---- Basically I'm not really sure how to start doing anything, since I've never really been an active sort of guy. Could anyone reccomend just a basic way/routine to get going? And secondly, my physique isn't that great - I'm a pretty skinny guy with bad posture - basically (http://www.alignmed.com/images/Posture.jpg), like the guy on the right, except my ass kind of sticks out too as it's the only part of me that isn't that skinny haha. So I'm wondering if I do follow through with some sort of basic routine (like doing something every other or w/e), would that be the best way to improve my posture, since it would strengthen my ab muscles or something like that? (Or is the best way just to put my shoulders and head back all day and hope I will get stuck like that)I know this is sort of a long post, but thanks to anyone who can help, or even just point me in the right direction!

How to start working out? + question about posture
-
My advice would be start small and work your way up. The 15 min jog sounds like a good start and same with sit-ups/ push-ups. However once every two weeks you should try and push yourself as hard as you can and take note of how many you can do of each before fatigue settles in.Also if you want to do like bisceps and general upper body then it might be an idea to invest in some light dumbell weights, ranging from 1-5 kg. These are like toning weights and will be useful for defining your muscles and makes the boarders more prominant. But if you want to build muscle then you'll need some 15/20k+ weights (bare in mind different people will start on different weights) and i'd use a barbell as its more easier to lift the shiz.Hope this has helped.Da Hawk

Indeed 18+ is a great age to start working out. Mind it you would need to feed your body a lot before starting this. Just like engine needs diesel to do it. I would suggest pushups before sleeping every night. They tire you a bit and better sleep is achieved. Remember a good sleep is as much important for health as is good diet and working out.And practicing with dumbells would also help a lot. However , I would like to ask what type of working needs to be done to increase height ? I am 5 ft 9 in and want to stunt myself upto 6 ft at least. I am a skinny guy with 120 lbs weight and 5'9"

There's no way to increase height after growth has stopped, except by surgically cutting the leg bones in half and encouraging bone production to fill the gap. It goes without saying that this is done only in extreme cases.
-
Fine , what's the average age for men till which height continues to grow ?
-
It varies quite a lot. Some guys stop growing in early teens and others in early twenties, but mid-late teens would probably be most common.
-
About 22 yrs is average for men. In some cases it may go upto 24 and some cases around 18-19.

Alright first of all that quote is inaccurate, there is no defined average and if there were it would be a lot younger! You want to have a better posture and stop being skinny? Join the quest. I'm 17 and I've been working out for three years, I've gone from a complete runt that nobody respects in school to a football player. Sounds really shallow, I don't care to be honest.Fitness is 70% of what you eat, and 30% excercise. This means I recommend you see a nutritionist and explain to them your goals so they can set a solid plan for you to follow! As for excercise? Don't invest in dumbells like the rest of the people have told you, get a gym membership! You need motivation to keep working out or else you will quit on yourself. This means looking at some of the more ripped guys in the gym and saying, I want a body like that. The basics - Mark rippetoes came up with one of the best workout plans ever made for skinny guys trying to get big. I suggest it!http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=712752

Actually if you looked at the price of dumbbell sets you would soon find out that its more expensive then a gym membership.

Well for a person like me whose university schedule doesn't allow going to gym , dumbells are a better option

You'll only be wasting your time, money and motivation.
