OK better words should have been...Maybe you haven't smoked long enough to be hooked on them.. there are no absolutes. Sorry

I'm not trying to push any argument, I just want to see why sdp thinks he can tell me that I simply haven't smoked long enough to not be addicted to cigarettes.
He's basically saying you haven't smoked long enough to be addicted either. It seems like he can't believe the fact that some people just aren't addicted to cigarettes.
-
I'll settle for that.
-
I'm not saying that.. I do think that if one smokes long enough and enough quantity, he will get hooked. I've smoked off an on for 20 years and I'm not hooked. But I've never been a heavy smoker either. I'm sure there are plenty of variables.
-
Well we all have different opinions based on our own experiences, but stating your opinion as fact to someone else is not cool.
-
wow, alot of action since ive been gone... hmmm, i can agree with pinky, it was hard for me/is hard for me to smoke sometimes, cause i still live with my parents and that may be why i can go without cigarettes so easily... but we will never know truly why...unless someone would like to break us into a molecular level and analyze the atoms that our genetical system possess(i think thats how u spell it)... any takers?

Here's an experiment.Smoke a pack a day for years and then stop cold turkey. If it has no effect on you, then you da bomb. LOL
-
that experiment is going to take to long, and cost to much... how about this, you let me cut open your heart and lungs, and ill slowly feed nicotine and tar into it, ill feed precisely the same amount as a pack a day, x 730 (equivalent to 2 years) then i will reinsert your lungs and heart, and then i will ask you, (after the surgery is complete, and the local anesthetic has warn off,)to quit smoking that same exact day... and i will write down your actions... and/or any seizures you may have... so when should i schedule this appointment of ours?
-
Umm yeah, that makes sense.
-
I know i havn't been thorugh what you have, but really: fuck cigarettes. They smell bad, fuck your lungs, and can cause cancer. If you really can stop them with no problem from addiction, i'd ay do it. really, are they that fun?
-
After a good dinner? Yes.
-
plus a nice couple of hits after getting laid is great as well, they also make for great conversation with other smokers, at least with teens... i dont really smell the smell of good cigarettes, when it comes to reds, and marlboros, Eh! disgusting, i hate that smell, parliaments have a strong smell, but they dont smell bad, newports are kinda leaning towards reds... camels smell ok... lol and i seriously think that im going to stop smoking soon, i just want to get my GED first, then ill stop, because im going to be working a shitload, and saving up my money, so i need to save as much money and time as i can...
-
I just quit on New Years 2008. I also smoked since twelve. The problem is that I've quit before, and said I'll never smoke again. This time I hope to keep my promise. I went cold turkey but there is a product called Chantix. It works well, from what I've heard.

Only a portion of addiction is chemically based. A big piece of the puzzle is habit and social setting. If cigarettes were highly illegal and nobody could smoke in public, or in their backyard, wouldn't people smoke less? In the same vein, alcohol isn't "chemically addictive" yet millions of Americans suffer from alcohol addiction. If I remember the statistics correctly, about 17% of American soldiers in the Vietnam war used heroin with some regularity, but less than 10% of that 17% came back to civilian life with a heroin addiction. Likewise many people get addicted to painkillers when they are prescribed the drugs to use in their every day life. But very rarely do people get addicted to the same chemicals when they're administered in a hospital setting.I know that I smoke more when I hang out at school because of the social experience (community college). Likewise I don't smoke when my Dad is around and awake because he disapproves (but knows).Changing my habits helps me cut down. I hang out at the smoking huts less. I keep in mind that the smell of cigarettes puts some people off. I try not to have that one last cigarette. I also don't smoke in my car to keep it from smelling like ash, for the comfort of my passengers - this definitely reduces my cigarette consumption. What really helped is when a girl I was involved with came home from school on thanksgiving break. I went from 3-5 a day to 3-5 that week without much hassle because I had good motivation to cut down (she doesn't approve of tobacco).Hope I've been some help.
