So does my dog, no cough, just the scratching shit. Shes current on all but rabies, and thats just because she hasnt had the final shot yet, but will have it in 2 more weeks when I take her to her appointment.I give her a bath once a week, special shampoo, its dog shampoo, got it on a recommend from the vet, it moisturizes the skin, toss a few flea and tick dip or hartz makes some drops you put on em once a month and it should be fine. My dog is still a puppy, about 7 months old now, purebred aussie, shes about 45 lbs now and doesnt look like a puppy!that damned dog is nuts! loves snow, will roll and dive and play in it for hours at a time if ya let her. Im patiently waiting for summer so I can start taking her hiking and backpacking and camping with me, supposed to hit 7 this weekend where I live, take her ass for a long wet hike and see how she does then, delay her bath for a day cos iM not gonna give her one before that walk!

Puppy Question

That's the thing, there are no fleas or ticks up this far North. Argh. He's about 11 weeks old, I hate how skinny he is. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t125/BeeLuminescent/Family/p_00016.jpgBut, he's cute. Turns out he's a retriever husky mix, with a sock fetish.

I dont have to deal with ticks or fleas here either, ticks in the mountains but not in town. I still use the products because of other bugs and mites and shit that get to her. and she is an outdoor dog! this is her first summer, shes gonna be spending massive amounts of time in the woods and mountains with me, keeping her protected is all. She hasnt had any of it yet, winter in town... hasnt needed it but I got it on hand for springtime and summer so its here when I need it for her.Good looking dog, Id post one of my sofa, but I dont have any on this computer! Ill add one later on, beautiful dog.just for clarification....shes damned big, and her name is sophie, I just call her sofa, I am indeed talking about a dog.

One our puppies had a infection when we bought him which is apparently quite common. Makes their skin all scabby and itch like crazy.
Edit: Had he has a sock fetish too! Must be a side affect.
-
Did it go away on their own, or did you have to get antibiotics? I just got a puppy shampoo that's supposed to temporarily relieve itching and sooth scabby skin, however, it must taste like mint (that's what it smells like) because now he won't stop licking himself on top of it. ^.^He's getting so much more comfortable now though.

I've found human anti-dandruff shampoo very helpful - the one I use has zinc pyridinethione (pyrithione zinc) as the active ingredient.

I am with Chance on getting in to the vet. My pooch has an allergy, to what IDK, but the Vet put him on benedryl and it lets him sleep and stuff with out the itch. He licks and chews constantly without it. He is also terrified of guns and fireworks so it's sedative effects help with that on the 4th of July.Mange can cause sores and itch too. That often needs a puppy doc.
-
Turned out with was just dry skin, and went away so thank goodness no vet was needed.
-
well thats good!
now remember, IT PUTS THE LOTION ON ITS SKIN OR ELSE IT GETS THE HOSE AGAIN!!!!!!

LOL... I am invisioning a little kiddy pool full of lotion, that would have to smell like dead animal for that pup to go roll in every morning...
Thanks Dantek for a morning giggle! My daughters dog rolls in EVERYTHING, and when it stinks the worst, she rolls the hardest! Dang dogs, gotta love em. Her most recent roll, was a worm on our back patio...Worm patte anyone?
-
eh luckily my dogs dont roll in stink but the oldest pup will always be rollin on somethin to scratch or massage his back, hes around 10 years old but acts like more of a puppy then the 1 year old!
