its been a long time since i have had to get new contacts since disposables last you like a gazillion years.i don't have vision coverage with my health insurance, so does anyone know how much i will spend getting my eyes checked and new contacts and possibly the lenses changed in my glasses. are places like walmart cheap?

Eye exam

Without insurance it's going to run you anywhere from $300 on up. I've never been to places like Walmart or LensCrafters. I'm sure they're decent, but I've heard they're not as good as your regular eye doctor's office. Dateline or 20/20 I can't remember which one did an investigation about a year ago on how they measured up, and they said that often when you go to one of those places such as Hour Eyes that you don't always get the right prescription or care that you need.

when you say $300 is that usually for an exam at an actual doctors office?
-
That would include an exam and contacts, probably not glasses though. The eye doctor is expensive enough even with insurance, but without it can be costly.

i have insurance, its just that my benefits don't include any vision coverage.

That is what I meant, without vision. You can't put a vision rider on your plan? They're relatively cheap.

hmm i'm not sure... most vision coverage is just "discount" programs anywyas...
