This past week or so I became sexually active. My boyfriend and I were doing quite a bit together, but during his visit my period started. On the third day of menstruation we decided it would be ok to have intercourse and he did wear a condom. However, when he withdrew, he said that I'd been so tight that the condom had slipped down on his penis a bit. He did not ejaculate in the condom, but there was evidence of precum. I just want to know what the chances of pregnancy might be. I have not taken plan b and I am not on horomonal birth control.Thank you.

Hi, quiet. Welcome to A2A. First of all, congrats to you both that you used a condom. If you were on your period, I would think that any chance of pregnancy would be quite small. Add to that the fact that your boyfriend wore a condom, and that he did not ejaculate. All together, I do not see that you have anything to worry about. As long as the condom contained all the precum, the chance of pregnancy would be miniscule. Of course, precum does not usually contain sperm-unless he has ejaculated since his last urination, and then it can contain sperm cells. Not to worry you unnecessarily, but if the condom did not cover his penis completely, there could be a chance of passing an STI, if either of you had one. Since you say that "in the past week I became sexually active," I would interpret those words as meaning that you were previously a virgin. Then, you would most probably not have an STI to transmit, but he might.

Chances of pregnancy are low.The precum debate has been study multiple times (here's one article):http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21155689If he masturbated and did not urinate before sex, then the likelihood of having sperm in the pre-ejaculation fluid is higher. Also, your chances for pregnancy during your period is low because you tend to be the least fertile during your period. However, no matter where you read you'll get the "unlikely but still possible" conclusion. If it really worries you, I would stay get an over the counter pregnancy test as to help calm some of the anxieties.

Doc,Let us not forget that they were not practicing coitus interruptus. Quiet's statement was that "the condom had slipped down on his penis a bit," and not that the condom had come off. One would assume, then, that any precum remained in the condom and did not make its way into her vagina. Thus the argument about whether precum contains sperm or not is academic and not germane. If the condom remained on and intact, and all of his precum was contained in it, there should be no concern about pregnancy.I agree, though, that a test should serve to relax her a bit.

Thank you all so much for your answers. I had thought you could still become pregnant while on your period if the egg had not left your uterus yet. It was indeed my first time.
