OK, here is a general question I have. In my high school it is recommended that we wear a jockstrap for just about all sports after school (obviously males only). Now, what is the purpose of a jockstrap? Why are they designed like that? I mean, I am kind of shy and don't really like walking around in the lockroom wearing one. Although not many of the other guys on my team seem to have a problem doing that. Why do they have to be so revealing? I can understand they are needed for support of my privates, but why can't they have a full back to them? Why do our asses have to be on display and hang out? Why are they designed to be open in the back? Does anyone know? Why am I the only guy who doesn't want to walk around the lockerroom with one on? I am fit and all, and I look fine in one, but I don't like all the other guys seeing me.

What is up with Jockstaps?
-
I never really thoght about it. You can wear briefs and/or boxer-briefs. They should give you enough support.
-
What exactly does a jockstrap do? Does it have any more functionality than to carry the genitals? All the athletes I've known from high school never wore them.
-
The biggest thing I am curious about is what ist he point of only having straps in the back? There must be a reason it was designed to only have straps instead of a full back and have your ass completly naked. Anyone know why?

Their purpose is really just to stop your genitalia bouncing around and getting hurt and distracting you in the game. I suspect the reason they are made backless is just to be cooler in hot weather.

I play football (first time ive ever played a organized tema sport) and everyone who wears a jock strap wears it over there boxers or over there girdle, personnally i dont wear one because ii dont like the way they feel, some of my friends did the same but one time something hit them they switched to wearing a cup every day, im probly the only one in the team that doenst wear one ;-p, im playing Wrestling after this then track after that i dont know if you wear a cup in those sports
-
I'm pretty sure you don't need a cub in track... It would probably interfere with running anyway. As for wrestling... I don't know any guys that wore a cup in that either.
-
Definitely don't need a cup for Track. A jockstrap or tight briefs would be recommended for it though.
Football players wear jockstraps to keep things from flopping around during play but don't wear cups because generally, the genitals aren't at much risk during football. Anything can happen, of course, but injuries to your nuts are rare in Football.
Baseball players, on the other hand, wear cups for the obvious reasons (a line drive at 90mph hitting your nuts would be extremely painful and could cause injury).
I have no idea why jockstraps are thongs in the back.

Jock straps can be open, because they are normally worn under shorts. They aren't meant to be underpants, just to control your genitatls from boucing around, to protect them and all during sports.
I don't care much for sports anyways, so it's been a while since I had to wear one. I quit taking gym classes when I didn't need to, because I was more interested in math, academics, computers, and such. But I don't care if somebody sees me in a locker room or shower. So what? I don't have anything they don't have. I would of course walk naked between the showers and the lockerroom and think nothing of it. As the lockers aren't in the shower room, but in the big adjoining room.
