Monitor Malfunction

$80 is good....although we're talking about an old piece of electronics. To repeat myself:In reply to:The downside of CRTs are weight, heat, and power consumption. You're telling me that a 20" 1600 x 1200 ($450 at Costco) is not good resolution?A few months ago I saw a Sony 23" 1920 x 1200 CRT monitor at Best Buy for $1500. Apple has a similar (but better-performing) monitor. The beauty of the non-chepest LCDs is their DVI (digital interface) port. Alignment (width, height, centering, keystone, etc.) becomes a think of the past. It's always optimal. And nice LCD panels are getting cheaper quickly.Your glass CRT must take up a lot of space. And you're getting x-rayed every time you sit in front of it. And older CRTs don't even have a flat face, so glare is a problem. But it's hard to argue with $80.

In reply to:
At the age of seven, Carl Friedrich Gauss started elementary school, and his potential was noticed almost immediately. His teacher, Büttner, and his assistant, Martin Bartels, were amazed when Gauss summed the integers from 1 to 100 instantly by spotting that the sum was 50 pairs of numbers each pair summing to 101.
It looks like he hit the ground running.

he did have a measurable magnatism about his personality

Well, the good deal was because it was from Sams Club. It retails for about $180 (each), its 20 inches. It is flat screened. It outpreforms all LCD screens that I have seen. Performance is the only thing that matters in my case.
-
I don't think an LCD screen can be as bright as a CRT (with current technology). But you should really see the Apple LCD screens...especially the two larger ones...they look quite amazing. The big one is 30", does 2560 x 1600, and requires two DVI cables to feed it (which is only supported by a couple of graphics cards).

Clever! I like clever puns

yeah, your monitor actually has about 4 times the resolution as your TV. after 19", i dont see much of a need for higher resolution. ya know, my current CRT measures to 15.75" (yeah, i know) and is a very nice piece of crap. ah who am i kidding, it's just the gateway computer that is a piece of crap. the monitor is just fine. it is like 17" deep and the border of the screen takes up 2" on the sides, 3" on top and 5" on the bottom. i mean CRAP, this thing may be nice but not nice enough for that! it can go up to 1024x768 and has a 70Htz frequency but i wish i had more

i AM talking about CRTs Steve and that period after the 300 MEANS THE SENTENCE STOPPED. CRTs should NEVER give off a weird sound as a result of a setting applied to it!
-
300No units? Someone else already interpreted it.> CRTs should NEVER give off a weird sound as a result of a setting applied to it!They certainly should not, and if they do, it means that you are probably damaging them.
-
I see this a lot. If a degaus doesn't fix it (which I doubt it will) then you should probably chunk it and get a new one.
-
A degauss will fix minor distortions caused by the CRT's shadow (or slot) mask becoming magetized. A power cycle will usually help that, since most of them run through a degauss cycle on start up (some even have a degauss button so you don't have to power cycle).I her case though, it sounds like the monitor is a bit flaky, and a power cycle "fixed" it. I suspect the monitor is unstable and will screw up again...but who knows.

In reply to: If that doesn't work, you can smack it around and show it who's boss. or u can do liek i do.. call it some bad names and threaten it ur going to throw it out the window and buy a new one. yea i really do do that.
-
I'd surf websites showing images of other monitors to make it jelous and fall back in line

nods in approval

is it making all these colorful wavey things and wehn u touch it like follows your fingers. if so get a motarized screw driver and put 2 magnets at the end of it and run it around the monitor and it will work. or if ur computer monitor is new theres a special feature called degause or sumthign like that you will see it that will fix the problem or atleast make it better. they showed it on g4tv if you dont believe me @_@
