Breastfeeding

biologically a woman can breastfeed for as long as she wants, but, breastfeeding when the child gets older, isn't seen as appropriate..............i saw a program where a woman was still breastfeeding her son when he was 7...........it made me cringe..........I personally wouldn't breastfeed for longer than a child would be on a bottle for, as soon as they start solid foods, and can drink cows milk etc out of a bottle, i would stop.

Breast milk is better than cow's milk for young humans, so a longer time is good for the child. Breastfeeding can suppress ovulation and prevent another pregnancy (how well it does that differs from person to person), and that can be a factor for or against.

I think this is more of a moral issue. If the kid's still 2.5 years old, he/she is probably neutral to the whole thing...but eventually the kid might say something/gesture somehting at the wrong time and the wrong place, which can lead to a conflict. Now, nobody likes conflict. So in my opinion, 2 years old is the absolute maximum...but that's just me.

Pete, i know all that, i was just kinda generalising......i agree with breastmilk being better for longer, but for me personally, it would only be if expressed and not from the breast over a certain age, i mean they get teeth when they get older ouch LOL
