Raw eggs

Nutrition: good. Salmonella: bad.In the U.S., many if not most chickens are infected with salmonella, and the hen can pass it to the egg. Salmonella can make you very sick. Not worth it.It might be worth the risk if you have access to eggs from known good hens, but I personally would skip it.(I wonder when irradiated eggs will be available? They'll at least be germ-free.)

Hmmm, not as dire as some may think. Although I have not eaten raw eggs straight, I do make a hollandaise sauce that is raw eggs mixed with hot butter and lemon juice that I have been eating for years and years (since I was a kid). My friends once found out how it was made and started to freak about the egg thing so I researched it many years ago. I looked and found a website that addresses it, here is the link.http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/humannutrition/_timely/EGGS.htm

What can you do to avoid illness from Salmonella enteritidis?
Avoid eating raw eggs or foods that contain them. This includes "health-food" milk shakes with raw eggs, traditional Caesar salad dressing, hollandaise sauce, homemade mayonnaise, homemade ice cream or eggnog made from recipes in which the raw egg ingredients are not cooked.

the number of eggs affected is less than 1 in 10,000
But I've eaten steak tartare a couple of times, which not only contains raw beef, but also raw egg. But then I didn't eat it in this country. Someone pass me the fugo please.

I had steak tartare once. It was made by a guy at the party who worked at his uncles fancy French restaurant. It tasted pretty good. I didn't know what it was until someone told me a few minutes later. It didn't go down as well after I was told. My mind just messed up the experience.

I had it in Paris a couple of times, at places that my friends claimed were safe. Still, it was somewhat risky. But it tasted pretty good. In general, the food there safer than it is here. It sure as hell tastes better.
