Parental Sex Talk
-
My dad never spoke to me and I haven't with my son. I'm pretty sure it's all covered in sex ed at school.
-
my dad never diod either and im 15 and i think surely he knows i know bout sex. I was glad i didn;t have to talk cuz once my dad was fixin to start and i said i learned this stuff at school. and he didn;t say anything bout it anymore. but anyway most kids now will find out about sex b4 they get past 5th grade. i know that eevryone in my school knew in 6th

The problem with finding out from friends and from popular culture (which is how most kids find out about sex before the parent talk or formal sex education) is that many kids will get something wrong. It's usually something important like "If you have sex without using some form of contraception, you run the risk of pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted diseases."
-
yes the most important thing about sex that little kids leave out is that it makes babies (darn babies if it wasn't for them everyone could have sex as much as they pleased LOL)
-
> it makes babies
It can also spread diseases.

Welcome to A2A, BigDick42. I got a talk at 12. My father was as embarrassed as I was, and we were both so glad when it was over.If parents answer questions when they are asked, there's no need to have a big talk. But it sounds like your father hasn't done anything at all, and it doesn't seem likely he'll ever get the courage now.You can always ask about anything here.
-
my dad refuses so that's out of the picture. my mom just says "education, degree, job, marriage, family" that's it or she'll just say "no sex before marriage" that's my lecture.
-
It was all covered in grade school in sex ed, so my parents never said a word. My little brother is 8 and i'm pretty sure he knows what goes on.
-
my dad had a talk about masturbation with me when i was young, but I did not understand what the hell he was talking about, kind grossed me out. He used a wine bottle to give me an idea...so weird.
-
In reply to: I'm pretty sure it's all covered in sex ed at school. Thats what i used to think, till i came here, and after reading posts from some of the younger members of the boards who come and go, i don't think they are being told enough about important issues.
-
My mum gave me to the talk, she had a list of things she wanted to say, it was very uncomfortable for her since they were not open about things like that.In my family, we are open, and my eldest does ask questions, they did periods last week at school and he was horrified as he thought it all just gushed out at once LOL so we talked about it, and now he understands better. My other half will definitly sit with the boys and go through stuff when they are older, and hopefully it shouldnt' be that horrible conversation everyone remembers LOL I am definitly not going to leave it up to school (he was obviously not listening about the periods thing) or their freinds to teach them about something as important as sex.
-
the sex education i recieved at school was awful, not useful at all. i guess ive always known about that stuff because i come from quite an open family, my dad actually gave me a sex talk and i didnt really need it anyway because i knew it but when it comes down to sex, my parents are ok.

In reply to:I'm 15 and so far my dad hasn't talked to me about sex, I know all about it but I was wondering when you lot we sat down and spoke to about the birds and the bees I'm a father of two kids. Both are well into their teens. I had the talk with both of the kids once I found out my daughter, who at the time was on 14, was giving her boyfriends blowjobs. I was told by my kids they weren’t having sex. When I asked them what sex was, hey said sex was only when you inserted the penis inside the vagina and the girl could get pregnant. But blowjobs, hand jobs and anal sex was not considered having sex...As horrified and shocked as I was, we went into the study and had a very long talk, when on line and had some show and tell and them I made the phone call to her boyfriend…..Needless to say my daughter and her boyfriend have stopped having sex for fear from my little chat with him that whatever he does to her, I’m gonna do to him!!!My son and I talk all the time about girls, sex and masturbation. I even buy lube for him so he doesn’t have to go thru the hand lotion phase. I didn’t make the talks weird. I just started out by asking them simple questions about sex and questions about their own body parts and then took it from there.I’m glad I did. I think it helped clear up all the weird things they heard from their friends…..I am always available to them whenever they need to talk about anything going on in their lives. From the subject of sex to answering questions and giving solid advise about relationship problems. I honestly would hate to be a teenager in this day and age. There seems to be so much drama involved these days…I would recommend having the talk. I love being able to talk openly with the kids. Sure at first, it was uncomfortable because of the subject, but we have a much closer relationship now. If you’re a parent, talk to your kids and find out what is going on in their lives and head. Find out what they think they know…. If you’re a kid, pull one of your parents aside and ask direct, point blank questions. Make them talk to you. You will be better off, I think. Put them on the spot and find out the truth about things... It’s all about growing up and understanding life, love, sex and relationships.

Its great to read that about parents who think like myself teddy bear, you sound to have the same great relationship with your kids as i do with mine hugs
-
Well I come from a pretty open family and I got the sex talk when I was probably 9 or 10. Yeah it was a little embaressing, but I'm glad my parents told me about instead of learning about it through friends (the school I went to didn't offer sex ed).
-
this line caught my attention, hell i would not that to happen either: In reply to: Needless to say my daughter and her boyfriend have stopped having sex for fear from my little chat with him that whatever he does to her, I’m gonna do to him!!! and another thing, you sound like one hell of a parent.

hug hey there hun. In reply to: But blowjobs, hand jobs and anal sex was not considered having sex... I was SHOCKED when my two younger brothers were talking to me about sex and they told me about how people say having anal sex isn't sex. I just looked at them both in disbelieve. I explained to them though the girl cannot get pregnant by having anal sex or "pop the cherry" it's STILL sex. The penis is still entering her body. I have NO clue where young kids get these ideas. My parents never really sat down and had a formal talk about sex, but my family is very open about things. So it was just something that was discussed here and there. My parents always said that if we thought we were ready to have sex to go to them and they'll make sure we have a supply of condoms, or for my sisters birth control as well as condoms. Not saying they supported teen sex because they didn't, but they knew whether they agreed or not it was going to happen and they would rather us have protected. When I have children I hope I can have the same open relationship I had/have with my parents.

Like Katie Lou, I guess I was really lucky because I grew up in a household where we were really open about sex. As a kid, I asked all the embarrassing questions that kids ask and my parents answered them all, with no hint of embarrassment or prudishness. In the UK, most schools still don't teach sex ed in any real detail until the age of 13. There are exceptions of course but this is the norm. THAT'S FAR TOO LATE!By the age of 13, 22% of boys and 27% of girls claim to have had sex at least once. 4% of boys and 7% of girls claim to be having sex on a regular basis and most of them are woefully ill-informed about sex. One proof of this is the 13 year old boy in Glasgow, Scotland who at some point over the next 6 months will become the father of 3 different babies by 3 different girls. Apparently he thought that if he got the girls drunk before they had sex, they wouldn't get pregnant because '...alcohol kills sperm.'! As well as being one of the youngest fathers in Europe, he also has gonorrhea.

I have NO clue where young kids get these ideas. From Bill Clinton. Or he got the idea from them.
