I had a 2nd mole removed 9/00. both of my removals have been benign. I started noticing then that one of my moles had a white circle around it. Asked the doc and she said it was called a halo and not to worry. She is a family practice doc, not a specialist. Now I am noticing that almost all of my moles have this (I have about 20) my freckles do not. Does anyone else know anything about this? I am concerned but don't know where to go next

White circles around moles (halos?)
-
Since around April of this year, my son has been going to a dermatologist for acme treatment and was on antibiotics and some topical creams and cleansers. He went to a water park on the 4th of July and got a lot of sun, not burned, but tanned. Sun is not good when on these medicines. He also acquired "halos" around moles on this back and chest. The dermatologist also said not to worry about them, but to watch for changes in the moles. The halos were from too much sun according to her. As of today, 12/1/01, the halos are still there and the moles do not seem to have changed. Hope this helps.

Krjm, you beat me to the post.I also have these “halo’s”, I’ve been to my doctor as well and as with you he said “totally ok”, I have 6 of them on my back and shoulders, when I sunbath they go bright red but don’t hurt, then a few days later they will go back to the skin white colour again, it’s a pain because they do muck up what little tan I get
