I know I'm paranoid. All my friends have told me so. But I have this gay friend, who I highly highly highly doubt has aids (but you never know these days!!) Anyway, he licked my finger and I'm worried that he somehow gave me AIDs. I mean, I don't even know that he has AIDs. Do I have something to worry about?
-
PLEASE HELP!
-
Did you have an open wound where your friend licked you? I didn't think so. You didn't get HIV.
-
I cannot believe how stereotypically arrogant that question was.
Just because someone is a homosexual doesn't mean a fairy from heaven comes down with a "OMG-GIVEUAIDS-5000" Death ray gun or something. Take it easy, the person is just homosexual...it doesn't mean they have an increased chance of being a carrier of HIV or AIDS.
If a straight hetereosexual male had done the same thing would you be worried? Probably not.
And even if they did I believe I read in TIME a long time ago you would need to drink like 5 litres of their saliva to catch the virus. Dunno if that statement holds up today or not but either way I think the chances are pretty small that u have anything to worry abt.

In reply to: I know I'm paranoid. Are you fucking joking? How much of a stupid jackass are you to (a) assume that all or most homosexuals have AIDS and (b) be so ignorant that you don't know how AIDS is transmitted?
-
why do you think that he has aids? Does he have alot of unprotect sex? or is it just cuz he's gay? (that's not very fair is it. it's like calling a guy gay cuz he is over sentive or a girl gay cuz she's a tomboy or something... anyway what makes you think he's got aids? And unless u had a cut No you didn't get anything if he did have something. A.I.D.S stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which is caused by H.I.V.- Human Immunodeficiency Virus. There are many myths of how A.I.D.S. is contracted. For example, many people believe that the disease can be contracted by touching or being around a person that has it. An online article titled "A.I.D.S. and Young People" mentioned two main ways A.I.D.S. is contracted. One is by having intercourse with an infected partner. The disease spreads through fluids transferred from one body to the other. If there is even the slightest cut or wound in a person's body, the disease can enter into the bloodstream and infect the person. The other way that the disease can be contracted is by sharing needles with a person who is infected.here's that link if you want to look more into it. http://mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us/user/l6274/aids.htmli even learnd some things from it.

yeah and being jack asses helps a whole lot. now cr that was helpful!
-
It was helpful for me too. lol i never knew what HIV or AIDS stood for. like the "real" name, but yeah i try to help
-
At least there was no mention of Hep B from the saliva LOL

Actually, the post did have a little legitimate worry in it. Studies have shown that many homosexual males have AIDS and the tranmission rate of this STD from homosexual male to homosexual male is quite high. Unfortunately, this starts to go into the notion that almost all homosexual males have AIDS to the point where it's a stereotype or automatic assumption. Please do not resort to this way of thinking. Understand how the AIDS virus works and do some research on the net.I'm sure you have nothing to worry about confused288.Good info in your post CR.
-
because if every asshole with a stupid opinion wasnt corrected the world would be run by... people like George Bush. Dammit, i dont see the point in trying anymore. Nothign changes, no matter our actions. there will always be stupid people, they will always have moronic opinions.
-
Bashing will not help anything. Encounters and experiences are what change people. I'm not calling confused288 naive, but would you call a black kid stupid and opinionated if he never met a white person and asked, "what do white people eat?" Helping others understand one by one is the way to change the world. Bashing is an example that can metaphorically contribute to a negative aspect of human life that should be layed to rest.I'm sure the original poster got the information he needed from CR's post, so maybe it's best this thread RIP.

no such thing a stupid question, only stupid people!im joking though.
-
Wow. I can't believe you all responded like that. I know he has unprotected sex quite often, and it isn't just because he's gay. Thanks for all making me feel like shit. It was just a question. I'll remember never to ask another one.
-
good.
-
next time you should specify that then b/c your question sure sounded very ignorant and like you were afraid just b/c he's gay. If your that afraid maybe you need to find "safer" friends....
and your welcome, if you do decide to post again however- try to do it with a little more tact and less ignoance.
-
Ya'll are so mean! God, maybe she honestly doesn't know, it's not her fault. And yea, most gay guys aren't safe like that. How would you know? The best way to find out is to ask nicely.
-
first off, i find the 2 stereotypes to be absolutely horrendous. every time i think of of someone still believening either that gay people all have AIDs or that you can get AIDs from just being in the same room as a person with it, or somethign along those, i get so pissed off. To think that there are people out there that ignorant that still believe the myths spread by homophobic and fearful people really does get to me. so apologies if i cant exactly post something nice here, but somethings you shoudlnt have to ask on. its called common sense drops brick on foot ow
-
I think all of you are being overly harsh. Yes, the stereotype is bad, but cut this person a break. The real problem here is not that the poster asked a question that you find reprehensible, but the lack of education that folks are getting these days (especially young people) about AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. When parents and schools are afraid to talk about sex then they are afraid to bring up STDs. Yes, the poster was ignorant about the subject, but this place is about answering questions so let's just give the poster an honest answer based on facts that will help people learn the truth and overcome stereotyping, rather than just calling names and putting up inane posts.
-
deep breath you are right. being too harsh on people doesnt solve their ignorance, it just lets you vent some of the frustration you feel at the world. but it is the only response i feel capable of issuing whenever someone asks a question born not out of lack of knowledge, but blind ignorance. there are FAR too many people in this world like that and i just dont have the patience of a saint to deal with them all.
-
Lack of knowledge and blind ignorance can be the same thing..ignorance means the lack of knowledge...it can be circumstantial (the person has never been exposed to the info) or it can be self-induced (the person ignored the info). I give this poster the benefit of the doubt and assume the ignorance is circumstantial...like many, many people on this subject.
