Well I feel a bit embarressed asking this, but hey, this is what this site is for right? Well I started my period yesterday and never have I had cramps or any sort of pain. Well lastnight I started having these really sharp pains everytime I went to sit down or stand up and even when I went to use the restroom. I've never had that happen before; it didn't happen all night long, but it happened a few times and the pain was horrible. I don't know how to describe it, but each time it happened I felt like passing out, what could be causing this? Plus I've never had a heavy period, it's always been rather light, but not this time. I may be overreacting, but it has me a little worried.

Sharp Pains
-
the pain might very well be from the heavy bleeding........and the heavy bleeding might just be one of those things...........I would only worry sis if the pain gets worse, and the bleeding gets heavier hugs not much help i know
-
hmm, well ive always had quite heavy periods but have luckily never been one of those people who has really bad crampsalthough i did experience it for the first time about a year ago, and it was very much how you described it -sharp pains- ive had it once after that but not again..maybe it was just a one offif you still continue to have heavy periods and cramps go see the docs
-
It just has me a bit confused because this has never happened before.
-
yeh i know the feelingi just spent one night in agony with these cramps and then they never returned..your body does strange things sometimes lol
-
I dont know if it's the same thing, but when i'm on my period and I go to the bathroom to pass a bowel movement, i sometimes get a sharp pain in my ass/pelvic region - only on my period, and i haven't been able to explain it. It pretty bad sometimes and makes me twist in pain a bit until it subsides and goes away...it's really odd.
-
I hate when that happens!!
-
Well it's not exactly like that, but simular. It's a very sharp pain in the pelvic region and it's making me double over because it hurts so bad. Thank goodness for midol (and I'm glad the cramps only last for a little while), it's made it ease up a bit...

I posted something similar a while back. I have random pains in the left side of my groin. They didn't really follow a pattern; it wasn't just near a period or anything. I'm sure it's nothing, but I thought I'd mention that I recently got diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.
-
I also have PCOS, and i havn't had any pains etc......:)
-
sorry but what's that mean? the syndrome that is:S
-
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, has lots of symptoms and stuff.........too many to list..........if you want to know more google PCOS..........
-
so then there are a lot of different cases huh? and it's cureable? or from what i read on what i could find....sry just kinda curious about things:S
-
No its not cureable, but its managable............
-
oh ok. but it's not life threatening or anything is it?
-
I hope not LOLIt 'can' be a pre-cursur to diabetes, and all the problems associated with that, but in itself, no.

Katie Lou don't be embarrassed by your question. As everyone said if the pain increases or happens more frequently every month, then make an appointment. Do you have your annual checks with your Gyno? I know everyone hates to go, but it's a must!! I'm very lucky to have a great Doctor. Every once in a while my periods do get pretty heavy and I'm down for the count that week. It has to do with a lot of things like your activity level, eating habits, exercise, emotions, stress level, etc... That's good that you're aware of the difference. I found out through early signs that I was diagnosed with endometriosis. My signs were painful intercourse and painful periods. Sometimes I would even skip a month. I had to eventually get the surgury. Thank God everything is ok now.

I am going to take a shot in the dark at this one. I am a guy. However, I have a wife and 2 grown daughters. One thing that usually always happens to them is that in the fall when it turns cold and damp their first period after that is really hard (lots of cramps) and heavy (flow). Not sure of your age or number of years you have been having periods, or if by chance you have changed parts of the country your in so that your more exposed to the cold, damp weather. But it is just a thought. They managed by keeping warm (hot baths, showers, warmer cloths, hot packs) and tylenol (or Midol if you prefer). But it is/was regular occurance for all 3 of them.

Thanks for all the imput guys, I appreciate it alot. The pains have stopped, but the blood flow is still heavier than normal. My sister even asked what has been wrong with me because I started a week later than usual (why she knows my schedule I have no clue), and I've been very snappish towards everyone. To longlines8 - Well I don't think it's due to cooler weather (I live in Texas and I have no idea what cool weather is, only heat lol), but I'm starting to think that it has to do with stress (work, family, and friends).
