I think my dad is starting to rub off on me a little but not to an extreme point. I know that when I go to pick up my little sib from school and I take him home he plops himself right in front of the tv. Ok, nothing unusual. But I notice that some of the things that he watches on tv are really disturbing. Some of these cartoons that they show on tv are I think sometimes not meant for children of a certain age. There was some anime show I forgot what it was called that not only did not make sense which most don't and it's not a big deal, but some of the ways that they present certain people is a little.. eh. Like the way they draw the girls is just a little unnecessary. And some of the way the characters are you really question what the people were thinking when they made this show. And some things that are put on tv that have gone just a little bit too far, that wouldn't have even been considered to put on tv many years back. And it could be just a casual flipping of the channels and next thing you know your looking at something that contains alot of vulgar or violence and language and wouldn't be right for someone of a certain age to look at. Please don't think that I'm against anything or think that I'm trying to make certain things look bad. Society changes rapidly and certain things are allowed. I guess when I see my brother looking at these certain things it dusturbs me because I get the feeling it's currupting his mind or something. Don't say it's foolish because that's just how I feel. Some of these music videos on mtv, bet, vh1 whatever are always showing some girl with rubber bands for clothing and dancing in a seductive way. People like that but when others who shouldn't be looking at it start thinking differently. These anime shows, and I admit this is one of the main things I don't like about Japan, are really ridiculous. Put some clothes on that character. Change this characters language. Dim it down on the blood baths. And if you keep it the same, don't make it a kid show. Put it on adult swim or something. Reality shows? Ok. Why are there so many reality shows I just want to know. It just shows how crazy people can really be. And some parents and adults wonder why kids do things at such a young age. Rape, murder, stealing, all loss of disrespect for anyone. I believe it's because they are heavily influenced by the media. And it's not just tv I know for sure. There are shows on tv that are good but the majority of them are unappropriate for certain people underage. I just thought that should be taken into consideration. I don't try to force him to turn away from certain channels or make him read a book. Actually I have tossed him a few books everyday in which he complains and tosses back so not much I can do about that. But I don't want him to see these things at a certain period in time because the mind is like a sponge and absorbs knowledge and I don't want him getting too severe of negative thoughts in his mind. I know I can't protect him from everything and everyone. There's no way and I'm not going to take away his free will like that. I just care for him alot and don't want to see him end up like others do. At school I know there will be others to provoke him into doing certain things but there's an ability for every human being to comprehend the difference between right and wrong. I would stick up for my brother and I have done it many times when people are teasing him or picking on him I have helped him. Even if he is spoiled and annoying. Seeing a family member let alone a sibling being hurt should give someone the urge to do something about it. And when I tell him these things about watching certain shows he gets all defensive about it like no no I want to watch it leave me alone. He's 8 and I guess he doesn't get it. So yeah he's a growing boy and needs to learn these things on his own but it's hard to just sit on the side line and watch. And please don't think I'm saying this to whine or complain like others would mention ::cough::, I'm just saying. I can't be so stern over what he does and watches and I can't control what he watches on tv. I don't think there's a way to make him understand without putting it the wrong way. If you have nothing nice to say or something that won't be of help, please don't bother posting. It's not a joke for me or a time for sarcasm. I really could do without the pessimistic attitude. Just saying ahead of time.

I have a sister who's the exact same age as your brother, and a brother who's 6 (nearly 7), and I hear them making jokes about sex quite regularily (seems to be one of their new favourite topics). I can relate to how you feel, except in my case I'm just kind of bewildered. I don't even remember understanding those things as well as them at their age, I'm completely sure that I didn't until a couple year later. Not only that but I was always so shy and embarassed to talk about stuff like that, and they make jokes about it and talk about it so freely. They're just kids and they don't understand the implications that go along with it, maybe that has something to do with the attitude I had since I understood it at a little older age, but it worries me to wonder where they hear this kind of stuff. I don't make a big deal of it, but I don't understand where it's coming from. I like anime. Not most of the stuff seen on TV. Although some of it is good, most of it is awful and has loads of filler (DragonBall Z comes to mind). Do you know the names of the series that you find to be too violent? I'd be interested in hearing what you think if you could find those names, then I'll either recognize them or look them up and tell you my opinion on them, as far as how suitable they'd be for a younger audience.

I totally agree with you, and admire the fact that at your age you see this, tho this should be your parents issue not yours really hugI am sick of not being able to let my 11 year old watch MTV, we have always loved to watch/listen to it, it USED to be always on, but now i can't leave it on because of all the nearly naked women on it, and that totally pisses me off, i am sick of seeing some woman with hardly anything on shoving her ass in the camera.........and i am no prude, but i dont' get why every video has to have it, i want to hear the music. As for cartoons, well, my kids watch what i let them watch......and nothing else. I have started to put discovery on instead of the kids channels, try it and see what he thinks, the boys are tending to watch monster garage, american chopper etc these days rather than anime.

Well there's this one show I caught him watching before something about ghost shell... shell ghost... ghost in shell? I don't know. And theres another one about a cowboy not sure that the last parts are but it was seriously just not right. I hate yugioh with a passion! but yeah that's basically it.

I agree with you, I hate Yu Gi Oh, but that would definitely suit his age. Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are very questionable in how appropriate they are for his age group. I'm surprised that those would be on for a kids audience. Are you sure that it's not on later in the evening?

I' not even sure. There is a channel specifically for anime on our tv or stuff like that, the games channel I think.
