im a straight christian guy, and i masturbate everyonce in awhile, anally and normally. I have two questions. I've been trying to stop masturbating for awhile, anally at least, because i've always thought of that as evil and gross and wrong, if not sinful, but when i try to stop, as time goes on it just gets worse and worse until i cave. What can i do to stop myself?? i know that whole thing about trying to keep your mind off of it, but ill always eventually catch myself alone...and yea. The other one, this kinda contradicts the first one, but how do you deal with it? like talking to your friends and family with this guilt hanging over you? and also the fact that i'm going to have kids that i'm going to raise with this guilt on my shoulders some day really bothers me.
-
How do you deal?

because i've always thought of that as evil and gross and wrong, if not sinfulWhy?
-
well...just the thought of sticking my fingers up my ass bothers me i guess.
-
Lots of people do it. It doesn't seem to cause any harm, spiritual or otherwise.
-
well i dunno. ive always assumed anything sexual is against christianity so yea. what do you think about the bible and masturbation?
-
The Bible doesn't actually say anything about masturbation directly. I find it difficult to believe God would lay a burden on people that very few could manage.
-
Just a few thoughts...First, it is very wrong to assume that anything sexual goes against Christianity. How would you explain the fact that God himself created sexuality. And there is enough evidence in the Bible to support the fact that he created it for much more than just procreation.Second, there are many intelligent Christians who don't believe that masturbation is the great sin you seem to be convinced it is. I mentioned the book The Strugge by Steve Gerali on another thread. You should check it out. Finally, I do believe it is quite possible for masturbation to become problematic on any of several levels, including spiritually. If you think it is than you need a plan of attack. I think one of the best tools to use (heh-heh) is accountability. Find a friend you can trust and let him know what's going on. Maybe you can even find someone and challenge each other. IT can be done, but probably won't be easy. Feel free to PM me if you need more thoughts or encouragement. I've dealt with this one before.

I agree totally with Damien there. As a Christian I sometimes fell bad about it. Sometimes I might think thats that I feel are wrong and then I feel incredibly ashamed afterwards. Almost humiliated. But I remember that God wouldn't be angered at me simply for masterbating! Maybe my being ashamed sometimes attributes to me taking so long!

Although you make good points, I think we should keep off religion. It always just leads to an argument.
If you really want to stop, you just have to have willpower. If you feel like doing it, try to find something else to do.

The original post had to do with the guilt that Christians sometimes feel around masturbation. It's a valid topic. If you don't want to discuss it, stay out of it. But don't attempt to place your own parameters around what could be a helpful discussion for several here. And my experience is that mentioning religion does indeed NOT always lead to arguments, even here.

Have you actually ever tried to stop? Or are you just guessing at a solution?

And my experience is that mentioning religion does indeed NOT always lead to argumentsEven I agree with that. To the original poster, a lot of people have put a lot of thought into this subject. You might want to Google around...you'll find a lot of pages from various perspectives. At the end of it all, you'll have to decide what's right, but I agree with Ineligible: the bible doesn't say a lot about masturbation, even in a roundabout way. That might make one think that it's not among the most important issues that the bible is concerned with.

Good post, Damien. I hope the OP and others listen to you. The advice is sound.

Straight or gay…. All men masturbate! Unless for some reason they medically can’tDon’t even get me started on that whole hypocritical Christianity subject…I really hate to break it to you, but if Jesus was in fact a real man…. Chances are pretty good that he masturbated and had sex while alive on earth. Masturbation is just a part of life....It even happens in the wild animal kingdom….Organized religion…. Rule number one…. Do what we say, not what we do! If you’re that worried about it…. Pray to your God for absolution

Roc the pagan -You make me chuckle before I go to work.Organized Religion...rule number two...Dont' sleep on your stomach or you'll wake up with a back ache.Hope you're having a great day down there in the lone star state.- Damien the Christian

Damien the Christian…I’m glad I made you laugh as I think everyone should laugh at least once a day. Organized religion is something I don’t believe in. I believe in the separation of church and state. This in all actuality is quite funny because the church has its controls so many states offices…I know so many Christians… and there is so many of them who are hypocrites. Do what I say and they preach but don’t do what I personally do…Rule number three…. Always make change when the collection basket comes by… Rule number four….Always help out those who are less fortunate. If you are a little short on cash… Just reach in and take some. God won’t mind helping you out if you’re needy …Roc the Pagan

I've never put anything in my ass just cause I don't feel it's something I would want to do. Lots of men have wanted to try putting something in their ass to see how it feels, and ended up liking it, in which they usually progress to bigger and bigger things. I have a friend who started this way and now manages to put huge toys and objects in his ass for no reason and loves to do so, but is actually very masculine, can't stand gay people, and messes only with women, but plays with his ass in his own time. From what I hear, it is quite gratifying, but this is because the prostate gland is usually getting massaged in the process which alleviates sexual impulses making orgasms much more climatic. I see nothing wrong with this, but I just personally tend not to manifest in such forms of sexual practice.

There certainly is too much hypocrisy in some churches, I fully agree. Some of it is sickening. But all people fall short of their ideals. That's why Christianity emphasises grace, not merit, and forgiveness and mercy.

Well, since we're discussing religion, hopefully Christians will evolve to concern themselves more with things like Matthew 25:31 to 46, and less with things like masturbation and whether Wal-Mart employees say "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas" to their Chirstian, Jewish, Moslem, and atheist customers. Jesus didn't like the Pharisees then, and I don't think he'd like them now.
-
I thoroughly agree, Steve. It's very unfortunate that Christianity in the US seems to be evolving in the wrong direction. Absolutely right about the Pharisees.
-
The only thing I'm gonna throw in here is to ask that we please don't confuse Christianity as it is practiced by some humans with Christianity as it is exemplified by Jesus. And remember, Christianity isn't for the perfect, it's for the screwed up folks trying to get it together. So you can excuse us if we act a little screwed up from time to time.
