I am 21 man and a Christian. I, of course, am against pre-marital sex. But as a man, I have sex drive. I have been confused for years and I really want to know whether a Christian should or can masturbate.Masturbate is not having sex with one other. I wonder if masturbation is banned or not allowed according to the Bible. Please kindly express your opinions and your advice/ answer. Thanks!

Can/ Should Christian masturbate?

I am in the same boat as you man!23yr old guy sinlge and wating to save for marriage. Somtimes that is pretty hard to do these days.As far as I can see we were created sexual beings and there are only a couple of ways for a guy to enjoy himselft - wet dreams, masturbation and sexual intercourse. Since we dont want to do the last one until marriage I personally see nothing wrong in masturbating. After all we can also have wet dreams and are they wrong as well??I am sure you still masturbate dude and its up to you if you are confortable with it or not. This topic has been around b4 and had lots of differnet answers suggestions as to weather it is wright or wrong!

This question comes up pretty often. There doesn't seem to be anything in the bible that says that masturbation is wrong. The story of Onan is not about masturbation. Now, there might be an issue regarding what you think about while you're doing it.

Oh I should have done some searching before posting the thread, sorry about this.To be frank, I usually think of nothing when I am doing it. I did it sometimes just because I have the sex drive. But after masturbating I always had a guilty feeling...

In reply to: Oh I should have done some searching before posting the thread, sorry about this. gasp You are the first person to ever say that! gives you a brownie The guilty feeling is normal, many people get it but you have remember that most men do it and it certainly isnt that big of a deal.

> I always had a guilty feeling...
All I can say is, there's no reason to. It's just something that gives you pleasure, and it may have health benefits. The sperm that's used will just die anyway, within a few days. There's really nothing wrong with doing it.

As a Christian man, I concur with everyone else here. I think there are some things that could be tied into masturbation that could be problematic (pornography, addiction, etc.), but I don't believe having a wank is a sin. I mentioned before a great book on the subject by Steve Gerali called The Struggle It is written by a Christian, a youth minister I believe, and his premise is that masturbation is not only not sinful, it is healthy. He even goes so far as to draw a distinction between lust and rehearsing . I tried to add a link to the Amazon page, but I apparently did it wrong. Hence the edits.

"The story of Onan is not about masturbation"Alot of the bible is metaphorical. The story is about masturbating, but the reason God got mad, is becasue Onan turned his back, and refused to do as God asked

I understand the idea of biblical metaphor. So, what does the story of Onan (a guy who pulled out and ejaculated on the ground, because he didn't want to do it inside his sister-in-law) have to do with masturbation? If you Google Onan masturbation, the first hit is this A2A page.

As a christian I also had some concern about this while growing up. Most people opposed point to the story of Onan. However, as already mentioned his sin was not taking on the responsibility he was supposed to and ejaculating on the ground when he was suppposed to have sex with his sister-in-law in order to provide a "son" for his brother who had died. This occurred during sexual relations with the woman, not while masterbating.I also agree that there are some things that can be of concern like pornography and possibly lust. But I do not belive that masturbation, in and of itself is sinful.I am particularly of this mind if it helps you avoid premarital sex by caring for your sexual feelings in a different way.Personally, I am 48 years old, married, and still enjoy masturbating from time to time. It does not in any way interfere with my relationship with my wife or cause avoidance in my husbandly duties. However, you do need to consider how you really feel about the issue. Because, like many things. If you feel it is a sin yourself, then doing it is sinful for you. But just because you feel guilty doesn't necessarily mean you feel it is a sin. Some guilt has to do with our upbringing, other times, guilt results from anything that we feel good about. (Our Puritan heritage)

I am a 20 year old christian male, and in my religion they (the leaders of my church) have said that masturbating is a sin and that you should not do it. Well I don't really believe that. I masturbate all the time and I really enjoy it. I too am waiting until marriage to have sex. I see it as either having premarital sex or masturbating to relieve myself, and since I don't want to do the first it is better that I jack off.

this is an old thread a rather touchy subject for alot of people.
You are far better off to leave it dead and resting then stir this pot of shit again.
That goes for all old threads unless you have something really wonderful or ground breaking to add to it that enlightens al future readers.
