Well as many of you regulars know I was diagnosed with IBS about 4 years ago. Anyways I was thinking last night how my sister was diagnosed with IBS and than a few years later ended up having emergency surgery on her gallbladder and ever since the surgery (about 1/2 years go) she has had no IBS symptoms. This has also happened to a good friend of mine, he had emergency gallbladder surgery and since has had no IBS symptoms.Last night I noticed that my pain wasn't actually lower on the stomach at the bowels, but instead higher, like 2-3 inches above the belly button. When I pressed in it hurt. I have noticed recently (last 2 months or so) more indigestion than normal as well, which not sure if it's related.I know no ones a doctor here, but was wondering if I could have possibly been misdiagnosed as well. Back when they diagnosed me with IBS, they did an ultrasound on everything in the area, including the gallbladder... but than again same with my sister and they said than her gallbladder was fine.Juts curious what you all thought. Thanks for any and all info.

Misdiagnosed with IBS?
-
Noticed I meant a goof.. my sisters surgery was 1 1/2 years ago.. not sure what happened to the 1 lol.
-
was wondering if I could have possibly been misdiagnosedIt's possible. I think if they can't figure it out, they just call it IBS.I know a married couple who just turned 40, and they both had emergency gall bladder surgery last year. In fact, my mom had gall bladder problems when she was younger than that. Her symptoms showed up when she ate greasy food. That may not have anything to do with your situation, but you might want get checked out at a place like the Cleveland Clinic if your symptoms persist.

Well unfortunaly my insurance changed and I can only go to Mercy Medical Center, which is still a very good hospital. Guess I will have to make an appointment with my GP and see what she thinks.I've had two surgery last couple of years and was never scared and for some reason the though of gallbladder surgery scares the shit out of me. But than again if it solves my "stomach" issues it would be worth it.
-
Let's not jump the gun. There may not be any problem with your gallbladder. But I can tell you that in my friends' cases, the surgery was laparoscopic, and recovery was rapid.
-
Very true.. I'm a worry wart.. i get that from my mother lol.My sisters was laparoscopic as well, and she did heal pretty fast. My friend on the other hand was pretty severe and ended up have a drainage tube in his side for almost a week, and of course there for had to remain in the hospital for the whole week.I know, take a deep breath and chill LoL.

Ugh! Okay when I woke up this morning and went to stand up straight I couldn't. I had this really bad SEVERE (worst pain since my appendicitis) in my upper right front/side just below the lower part of my rib cage. For about 10-15 minutes I could not stand up straight because if I did I got this horrible pain. Well During this time I had to pee like crazy so I tried to pee and lord that even hurt that area. Well after about 10-15 minutes passed the pain was gone like in an instant. Now I know this could have just been a cramp, but now it has me worried. Since that happened I have been getting very dull pain sensations sporadically, it's not a continuous feeling. I am debating to make an appointment with my doctor, but now wondering if I am just over reacting. What are everyone’s thoughts? Yes I know I should be safe and see my doctor, but to be 100% honest I’m a little worried or scared to have another operation.
-
That's a bit of a mystery. In that area, the colon curves to the left and goes across. I'm not sure what else is there except for bone, muscle, etc. Given that it came and went so quickly, it really does sound like a cramp of some sort. It's probably worth mentioning it to the doctor (over the phone), and asking him what he thinks.Have you been doing any kind of physical activity that may have affected the area (heavy lifting, etc.)?
-
Not sure if we are thinking of the same area. it's the lower right (My right) ribe cage.. which is actually near the gallbladder. It's kind of hard to explain, wish i had a diagram now lol.
And no I haven't done anything physical lately. It just just odd because all I did was get out of bed and it felt like a jab in the area I mention and stayed there for about 10 minutes before going away. I have an appointment with the doc a little later today, so i am sure she'll sort things out with me and let me know if she thinks it's anything serious or not.
-
Well just got back from the doctors a little bit ago and she thinks it's my gallbladder. She said the severe pain I was feeling might have been me passing a small gall stone. She is scheduling me for an ultrasound to check the gallbladder.
-
You were right about the gallbladder in the neighborhood. It sounds like a pretty reasonable diagnosis. It that's the case, hopefully the stone has passed, and there aren't any others in the gallbladder. My friends, a married couple, both 40, had their gallbladders out last year. In both cases, it was relatively minor laparascopic surgery, but hopefully you won't have to deal with that.

Trust me I am hoping as well that I won't need surgery. I am finally debt free (Well other than my house), and last thing I want is more medical bills. Because of my insurance, it's a guaranteed $1500 I'd owe. Bad enough with the ultra sound its gonna owe a few hundred. Damned deductibles LoL.Today the area is feeling pretty much normal, so I am hoping that's a good sign fingers crossed
-
$1500That really sucks. As I always say, remember that next time you vote.Good luck.
-
I know some of you will slap me... but I cancelled my ultrasound. Okay and before you slap me too hard, I cancelled because I haven't had any issues since the incident. And the way my insurance works the whole amount of the ultrasound will fall under my deductible... which is a lot!!So if the issues arise again I'll get the ultrasound. I just cannot justify incurring debt when I am not having problems anymore. Now feel free to slap me LoL
-
SLAPS eddie upside the head
-
Oohh again.. but lower this time mhehe *wink*
And I know I should have it done, it's just money is really tight right now. Trust me if I have the problem again I will get the ultrasound done.
-
Well i hope it doesn't happen again, but i trust you to sort yourself out should i happen *rubs eddies sore bits better *

Well thought I'd bring the dead thread back to life since it's related. I started to have "gallbladder" issues again, this time I cannot even take real deep breaths without it hurting. So I rescheduled my ultrasound for this Saturday. I am still very nervous on the outcome because I really don't want surgery again; just the thought of it makes me ill to my stomach.Keep your fingers crossed. Also curious if anyone has had gallbladder surgery if they wouldn’t mind sharing their stories. I’ve heard good and bad stories.Thanks.
-
BLAH! So I wasted my money on ultrasound, as I feared, they said the ultrasound came back normal. But I am still having issues and symptoms of a "malfunctioning" gallbladder. So now I have no have another scan, which will show the function of the gallbladder.Guess we’ll just have to wait and see the results of this new test.
-
Okay.. soo. I've had both the Ultrasound and the nuclear test done and both have come back normal. So I just wasted a lot of money for nothing.I am more irritated by the fact they are telling me everything is normal but I am having pain in the area of my gallbladder. I even have a lot of the classics signs of gallbladder problems. I am at my wits end at this point. Only other option is to see a specialist again, which who knows now that my deductible is met I might do it... though probably just a waste of my time like the last two tests.I really don't know what to do. I have been dealing with this "IBS" for almost 7 years now. I guess I got my hopes up that maybe we found the problem and I could go on living a more normal life instead of revolving my life around my how my stomach and such feels.Bah.. any suggestions would be great.
