D'oh! I don't express my love by flirting on the board, for instance. Even though I'm not a Christian, I strongly believe in what Jesus and many other righteous philosophers said. I express my love (at least on an Internet forum) by, for instance, sticking up for groups of people who are being unfairly attacked. For reasons of convenience and logistics, I've spent years living in areas with large gay populations. Really, gay people are just people. You would never know that most gay people are gay if they didn't tell you. I just can't abide seeing my friends and neighbors unfairly smeared.I also spend a fair amount of time in a poor, black area of Miami. It's now pretty clear to me that most people have a simplistic idea of what ails that community and its inhabitants. If someone came here and said that black people are lazy, no good, etc., do you think that I wouldn't reply with a challenge? It's a nice sentiment that we all love each other, but sometimes big ideas need to be discussed. I would trade all of the love on this message board to bring back the lives or the (estimated) million people who were killed during the Iran/Iraq war, or the (estimated) over 100,000 people who have so far died in the most recent Persian Gulf war. They were both wars that were sparked by lack of understanding (and lack of good information as well). I'd also trade itSometimes controversial ideas need to be discussed. Hopefully, sometime, somewhere, the discussion might have a positive effect.

Sorry to bring it up but...

We should change the name of this site from afraid to ask to afraid to agree. Lord, Jesus, Father... I ask you and I pray. Please don't let government officials from all over the world argue like this together. Please. Last thing we need is WW3.

But they don't argue. They calculate, decide what they're going to do, send missiles, then send troops. People die, whether or not they are fighting. There is no discussion, no argument, no communication. The planners then live another day, to plan another war.Back to the discussion of bigotry...Catholics didn't like Protestants and Protestants didn't like Catholics, so people in Northern Ireland died. Sunni don't like Shi'a and Shi'a don't like Sunni, and everyone hates the Jews. And people die.If you start thinking about people in a way that makes them seem less than fully human, there will be trouble. That's how Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals wound up in death camps during World War II.

well problem solved. wipe out the human race. enough damage has already been done.

Steve.. I don't know why things are the way they are. If evolution dictates a certain "mix" of straight and homosexuals as being advantageous... what is that advantage? Population control? If that is the answer then fine, I accept it.Roc... You're just being silly and letting your emotions lash out. Please control yourself.I never said I was intolerant of gays and their practices. I don't care about what goes on in the bedroom. I don't care who you have sex with. I don't care if it is a personal choice or whether one is "born" that way. It doesn't matter to me whether one is gay or not. Obviously, homosexuality "happens" and has been "happening" for as long as we know about mankind....so obviously it is "normal" for it to happen. However...I say that until someone can show/tell me what biological aspect makes it normal and "advantageous" to mankind, I will still stand behind my words and claim that homosexuality is a biological abberation. So, please don't give me this "judgement day" line. That's just.... "silly".

If that is the answer then fine, I accept it.I don't know why things are the way they are either. I doubt that it has anything to do with population control, but who knows? You'd thing that reducing fertility would be a more efficient way to do that. This is just speculation, but maybe homosexuality is a recessive trait, and it confers advantages that way (like the sickle cell trait), but you get a different result when it becomes dominant. Or maybe the evidence is misleading, and it's not genetic.> normalWhat does "normal" mean, and why is it necessarily good? Since we're not identical objects, stamped out of tin, there can't be more than one arbitrarily-chosen normal person. I don't understand the obsession with what is normal, and the need to categorize. An examination of the early history of psychology show where that can lead.Lack of information is not a good basis on which to form a judgment.

Can we just bury the hammer in this post and let it die!

You clearly have nothing useful to add to this thread, and it's not clear that you understand the discussion, so perhaps you'd like to stop posting to it. Can I help you find a thread that would be more interesting?

no

Do you really think this In reply to:Can we just bury the hammer in this post and let it die! Warrants this? In reply to: You clearly have nothing useful to add to this thread, and it's not clear that you understand the discussion, so perhaps you'd like to stop posting to it. Can I help you find a thread that would be more interesting? C'mon Steve. You have to know that was out of line and unwarranted.

How about this: "It seems like people are getting sick of your crap! blah blah blah!"You know, you can be very selective in your quotes. There was actually a useful discussion going on between sdp and me before you all crapped up the thread again. No one was being insulted or yelled at. We were just discussing ideas. If you and Godzilla are not interested in the discussion, then you are free to look elsewhere for entertainment. Really, you should. The Godzilla comment that I replied to was utterly unnecessary. I seriously doubt that he read anything on the thread before he posted.

Wow.. Is someone getting a bit emotional?

So far you've answered a total of zero of my points. Putting up snippy nonsense as you just did does nothing to defend your seemingly indefensible position. Go back and scan the inconvenient questions. Is there any way to focus on the ideas under discussion? Apparently not. Your saying,"I have to defend myself because of my beliefs? Fuck them",pretty much sums up your position. You don't need to defend yourself. You need to justify your position. If you never said anything in the first place, no one would have said anything back, and you could have used the word "fuck" a few times less, and this thread would have died a long time ago. What you've done is shameful. How exactly are you different from any other common bigot? Not at all, as far as I can discern. I've met people like you, but they're usually burning crosses on the weekend, while wearing white sheets and pointy hats with eyeholes. Most bigots are motivated by an inferiority complex, so they kick people in weaker positions to make themselves feel better. Do you think doing that makes your "sluttish"* less offensive in the eyes of God?Canada is a pretty tolerant and progressive place. I don't understand how you fit in.____________* "sluttish" - the word that a moderator used to describe your behavior in the post following the one that was cited.

Sorry, but you've squandered your "moral authority" to criticize how anyone treats anyone else here. Please don't hijack yet another thread.
-
I'm not sure why you're having trouble with this idea: from the get-go, this thread has been about stereotyping gays. It's really not that complicated, is it?Now please take your own advice and stop hijacking the thread. Or is a Nyquil discussion about to break out?
-
**not a dig, or critism, just simply wondering so asking - Steve how the hell do you find all the past threads you find to quote, i have trouble finding stuff that *I* have posted never mind stuff other people said LOL **

Some people search for enlightenment. I search for information. It's all in the keywords, patience, and having time to waste. Search for "drunk sex"; by the middle of the fifth page of results, you will see it.[Note to no1: That was self-deprecating humor. Please don't construe it as in invitation to jump in.]

erm.............im bored, but actually not THAT bored......

Speaking of looking things up, I thought that the idea of a "gay gene"'s being a recessive trait was an original thought (including the comparison with sickle cell anemia), but it turns out that Ineligible thought of it first here, last July. Did anyone else have a sense of déjà vu about this thread?
