Hello,Some questions.
-
Can you talk to a school counsellor or a senior teacher about it? If the school suggests to your parents that you've been taken off meds too early, they may re-think.
-
I've talked to my mom about it breifly but theres no way she will ever put me back on meds, she says, and my school has a counsellor but i would'nt know how to apporach him and even if i knew how i dont think i could i hav'nt told anyone about my adhd before.
-
If you fail all your courses after the reporting period, I'm sure that your counselor will find you himself. It would be a lot easier if you found him first. Just go into your school office and tell the person at your desk that you'd like to speak to your counselor. I don't expect that you'll be asked what it's about, but if you are, say it's personal.
Do your parents really understand what a hard time you're having in school, and socially?
-
Don't forget that if you can get the school on your side, that's a strong ally. Parents take what schools say very seriously, a lot more seriously (usually) than their offspring.

My mom has never listined to the school, about other things. But i reallllly, realllllly dont wanna repeat grade 9, all my friends will be ahead of me, and i really dont want that.and without medication what in god name am i sussposoed to do.and steve i go to a school with 1500 kids i bet alot of kids are failing i doubt he'd find me. and yes my mom knows about the school problems but she doesnt really do anything about it, and im not soclaily bad, i only like school for the social part, i mean ive had girl friends before, but now that im in highschool the friends i thought i had in grade 8 arnt really there anymore.

See thats your problem right there. You have it set in your head that you cant do good in school without medication. I bet its all a psycological thing. The mind is a very powerful thing. Try thinking positive about yourself for one, talk toa counselor and try to do it without meds, i bet you can do it.
-
If your school doesn't have enough counselors on staff to keep track of students who are having obvious problems (like failing their classes), then the school is not doing a very good job. In either case, you really should go talk to your counselor. What do you have to lose? If there's a chance that it leads to your not failing the grade, it will definitely have been worth it.

I've tried doing it without meds for half a year and i never relyed on meds, i only used meds for a year, low dosage.but during class i sit there i listin to what that teacher says for awhile then my mind drifts off to other things, then the teacher gives me homework and i never do it, either i forgot about it, or i rememeber and just not do it. and when a test comes up my minds blank, i think i have under a 30% in math, i do alright in other classes like drama 90%, gym 90% and then science, math, i just fuck up i cant pay attention i can only pay attetnion to the things i enjoy.I think its embarrasing the only people who have to go to a consulller are drug addicts (well thats all i see)My teachers said if i do my work the teacher will do everything in there power to pass me. but i just cant bring myself to do the work.im sussuposed to be writing a short story right now 200 words, but i forgot all my stuff at school so i dont even know what im sussposed to do, well thats just the beginning on what i go through everyday.
-
Wow you sound like half the kids in my high school, yet they all ended up passing. And it seems like you struggle through the classes that are real classes. I used to get a 90% in recess. Give me a break, like i said, its all in your head. Buckle down and do the work, stop making excuses.
-
People go to school counselors for more than drug issues, and most counselors are not like the guy with the big head on South Park. If you fail the grade, you're really going to wish that you went when you had the chance. Please give it a shot.As far as the short story is concerned, can you just remember the subject? That's all you really need, to write 200 words. By the way, the post of yours that I'm answering has close to 200 words.

What can the consonullr do for me?Tell me to do my work? Trust me people have done that alot.
-
I've begun to realize u are not open to doing any type of work or putting any extra effort nto nething. I think you want the pills, you want the easy out. Buddy if you think your whole life will be as easy as taking a pill, you will be horribly shocked
-
I put effort into things, and i think the pill helps but im pretty sure if i try really hard i can do well.
-
there u just said it, if u try really hard u can do it. So if you know you can then why are you on here asking us what to do? Be confindent

In reply to:What can the consonullr do for me?Tell me to do my work?Trust me people have done that alot.Yes, in fact someone here keeps telling you that. Unfortunately, no one here has a magic solution to your problem. We're not doctors, and even if we were, we wouldn't be able to diagnose you on a message board.I don't know if you need to have the meds, but it's a good possibility. I'm not big on giving drugs to kids, but I've seen some who absolutely could not function without their meds.If the counselor is worth a damn, he's seen a lot of cases like yours. He doesn't just deal with drug addicts and felons. If he thinks the issue is worth pursuing (and I think he will), he will contact your mom. I don't know if he'll convince her that something needs to be done, one way or the other, but it's worth a shot. There is a chance. If you don't do anything, the chance is pretty close to zero.
-
I understand that you see a lot of kids given ADHD meds who you think don't need them, and you might be right, but I think you're a bit out of line trying to diagnose someone on a message board. Leave it to the professionals.
-
Im not diagnosing him im trying to help him get over this without meds. There are plenty of ways to do things in life, you dont need to take a pill for everything.
-
That may be so, but we're not in any position to tell him that he needs pills or that he doesn't need pills. You seem absolutely sure that he doesn't, and I have no idea why.
-
I worry, aTa7, that you seem to be assuming that anyone can do just about anything, or at least anything "normal", if they just put some effort in. The message that this sends is "if you're not doing well, it's your own fault". There are of course times when this is true; but there are also times when it is quite untrue and unfair and indeed cruel. You wouldn't tell someone with paralysed legs that he can run if only he tries hard enough. Disorders of the brain are not always obvious at first glance, but that does not make them any less crippling. Some things that you can do easily may be possible with great effort, but can that be expected every day? Other things may require superhuman effort, or be effectively impossible. We don't know the details of AppleJuice's condition, but the fact that Ritalin seems to have made a substantial difference does suggest there is a genuine problem - it doesn't improve everyone's grades that much. Some people like to hold a simplistic philosophy that God rewards people in this life according to their desserts, and this philosophy carries the implication that people who are not doing well must deserve it. I reject this philosophy as unrealistic, inhuman and unChristian, but its influence does permeate some contemporary thinking.
