Yay me!! Adam accidentally put this program on my computer (my spyware blocker popped up telling me there was an issue and he thought it was regular pop-up and 'X' out, which let the program install itself on my comp), it's a new version of Spyaxe, which is a pretty high classed spyware program. Well I cannot get it off my computer and I have googled my brains out and cannot find anything that removes it. I found many other people who got this same problem, and they too cannot find a solution. I tried the same process I used to remove SpyAxe, but didn't work.If ANYONE has any clue what to do... I'd appreciate it!Also, I updated my windows and Windows had a new update (for January) that I am guessing is to block this program, even said it installed a mal-ware tool but I'd be damned if I can find this tool on my computer. Again thanks for all and any info.

Thanks Amz and Angel, when I get home from work today I'll give them a try. I'd hate to have to do a complete restore on my comp (though I am sure my comp could use it).
-
what OS are you using?if its XP you can turn off the restore option, run spybot or adware or any of a dozen others, find it remove it delete all temp files and turn the restore back on.It wont cure every bunch of shit you get but it gets most of it.McAffey has a website that tells you about virus programs and what they do, but I dont have that lilnk offhand.
-
FWIW there is a pretty good free online spyware scanner atwww.spywareguide.comI just run it periodically and it cleans up a few that have slipped in, it's good because it's always pretty much up to date and you don't have to have another program installed eating up your resources.HTH, Rigpig.

You'll have to boot up in safe mode and do a search and destroy for all sorts of shit and then it will reinstall itself, that shit sucks, the spyware actually prevented me from going to websites that had removal tools, saying that "SpyAxe has filtered this site" or something.Your best bet is to reinstall windows because it will always be there popping up ads and redirecting u to fake searchy engines

I am running windows XP, how do I turn this restore thing off?
-
I am still having the same issue. I have ran tons fo different spyware and such bots and still not getting rid of it. I was about to doa complete restore on my comp when I just remember I have a dell, so I have no restoration disks, all I have is the windows re-installation disks.. will that wipe my computer clean?? Grr I remember when restoring a computer was soo much easier!
-
Okay, so I did a complete restore on my computer, which was actually damned easy (With dell you just press F11 + cntrl and ti gives you the option to restore the comp like the first day you reseived it.. took less than 10 minutes). Anyways, now I am looking into purchasing a REALLY GOOD spyware and virus protection software. I know Macaffe used to be really good, but I know there are a lot of other products out there now. What does everyone recommend as the best for protecting a computer??Thanks!

I've been using Norton Internet Security for a few years. The best thing about it is that I always get if for free (or close to it) with rebates. NIS itself is sometimes vulnerable to attack, and it uses a lot of memory and CPU resources. Its pop-up blocker is certainly helpful on this site, but I'm not sure that the firewall is much more useful than the one that is now part of XP (if you've been keeping up-to-date with Microsoft's patches; you're totally screwed if you haven't been).
Why you should ditch Norton AntiVirus: Senior Editor Robert Vamosi recommends Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 (I assume they have a new version out now). Consumer Reports also top-rated PC-cillin a few months ago.
In tests of their latest versions, it looks like Norton Antivirus' speed performance was a bit worse than McAfee's.

Well which software do you suggest Steve? I plan on going out tomorrow ( or DLing from a website) a virus/spyware block with my paycheck. Also yes I do have windows XP, and I am current on all my updates through windows (made sure of that last night after restore). My comp at home is pretty nice, I have over 1 gig ram, 60 gig harddrive, and I think a 4gig p4 processor. Trust me I spent a pretty penny and i want to make sure it lasts (which is why there are new restrictions on the computer for Adam LoL) Edit: Was also thinking of using a different browser. I heard there are better browsers that help against spyware and pop-ups. Any comments on that?

There's no easy answer to "what is best" for everyone, but for the average user, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security is a pretty good bet. It includes anti-virus, anti-spam, and firewall, like the others. I don't know if their anti-spam is worth anything.I think IE sucks because it doesn't have tabbed browsing, aside from all those security issues. Opera and Firefox are both good, although Opera may be more stable. I'm stubbornly used to Firefox, but if I were going to start all over, I'd probably start with Opera. I think it's free now.

I use that exact same stuff. Some of the stuff I download and some of the sites I go to with this computer shocks me. I still haven't had any problems. And Internet Security 2006 comes with something that makes sure all of your computer's programs are running properly.
-
So you've tested them against each other? W'd better tell c|net that they're wrong.I've been using NIS for a while, and still do, but I'm telling you, it has some big issues.

Personaly FWIW I wouldn't touch any Norton product. I have a friend who has a succesful business visiting people's houses and sorting out their PC problems, He loves Norton products because they keep the money rolling in from people who have got into trouble using them.YMMVRigpig.
