that's not just you though and that's not the same as an aggessor who can also buy a gunIf someone invades this home, he can expect to face a 12 guage... however, if there isn't time to get to it, he has to face me and that won't be nice eitherFortunatly, living here, I'm pretty confident that a home invasion is a low probability and a home invasion armed with an assualt rifle or hand gun is even less.

For respect of a slaughtered woman and child, Im staying out of this forum!Im nearly always ready to debate guns and legal ownership of them but alas my life has gotten very busy as of late and Idont have the time to type here and defend y position nor do I wish to detract form a vitems memorey and your homage to her. When I have more time, Ill continue this debate in its own topic.
-
But that's not the same. I can't make a law that will stop some jerk from getting a gun without stopping myself from getting a gun. And even in places like the UK criminals get guns. I don't like the idea of only the criminals having guns. And some wack-o doesn't need a gun to attack me. I'd just like to be able to respond with one.

Most murders are by people known to the victim (in this case, apparently the husband/father). You have a gun in your house, you have a big argument, someone gets really angry, doesn't think, grabs the gun, and then.... Guess what?
Unfortunately there are a lot of incompetent gun owners. They don't know how to store them. Their kids find them. The kids don't know the difference between a gun and a toy. Then guess what happens?
The idea that someone will break into your house, and you'll fend him off with your 12-gauge (once you get to it, unlock it, find shells, and load it) is romantic, but unlikely. People have seen way too many movies. Much more likely, you'll get shot, and the criminal will walk away with your gun.
All this talk about the American revolution. Where were the gun owners when black men were swinging from trees, and when Japanese were rounded up and put into detention camps? How will you feel, after the next terrorist attack, when folks with Middle-Eastern-sounding names are rounded up? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the gun owners to come to the rescue. They haven't shown themselves in 230 years. Anyway, during the American revolution, the government didn't have tanks and bombs and large-caliber bullets and tear gas, and so on and so on. Good luck fighting them off with your hand gun.
> If you don't like our laws don't live here.
If the laws are changed in a way you don't like, are you planning to emigrate? Which country has laws that you like? Maybe a quick read of the Constitution would be in order, in the mean time.

i would prefer to be a brit since we don't have as many stupid people with guns here..........but each to their own.

In reply to:Where were the gun owners when black men were swinging from trees, and when Japanese were rounded up and put into detention camps? I actually met a lady from Japan a couple weekends ago who thought the Japanese internment was actually a good thing for Japanese Americans. I think she felt it protected them somehow.

That's because you don't have as many people...period.
 -
not as many people..................with guns sticks tongue out

In reply to:I actually met a lady from Japan a couple weekends ago who thought the Japanese internment was actually a good thing for Japanese Americans. I think she felt it protected them somehow. Is that what you think? There were blacks in the 1800's who were comfortable with slavery, and didn't want to see the institution end. So what's your point? I hope you don't really think it's a good idea to round up members of an ethnic group and put them in camps. Why Japanese American citizens, and not German or Italian American citizens? What was the women afraid of? Did she feel like she was in protective custody and safe from Klan-style attacks? Then she should have volunteered for incarceration. It shouldn't have been compulsory. If we go to war with Ireland, are you ready for the lock-up?
-
Steve, settle down Buddy. I didn't say I thought that at all. I just reported what she said. I just thought it was interesting hearing a Japanese lady say that. Nothing more. Don't read too much into it.
-
The lady is nutty. I pity her.
-
Maybe you should hear her out before you judge her so quickly.
-
There are some things that are beyond the bounds of reason and ethics. Gathering together members of an ethnic group and putting them in a concentration camp is one of them.
What do you imagine could possibly justify the woman's opinion?

I am locking this thread because it has strayed too far off topic for my liking, and the subject is close to my heart. Apologies for any annoyance this may cause.
