Over the past year, in very rare circumstances I have had an extreme shooting pain in my right ear directly located where the jaw joins the head...
It feels like someone is jabbing me with electricity and It forces my head to twitch down to my shoulder uncontrollably. This usually happens three times in a row when it happens, however its only happened about 10 times..
. The last time it happened at school while I was typing up a paper. Don't remember the other times.
It happened last week and it was extremely painful so I told my parents and they think I am lying. I'm not in pain and I'm not experiencing any other problems so I see no need to go to the hospitol..
Any ideas, should I be worried?

Very strange electric shock however no one believes me.

Do you live near the ocean and/or in dirrty water a lot?
-
I live in Baltimore, closest water source is the Chesepeake Bay. I don't really go swimming and I seldom drink tap water even.

Ah, I thought It might be Cholestiotoma (sp?) You get it by swimming in dirty water, such as the ocean. Its really rare. Hmm Let me go to a little research and see if i can help you find what it is.

Have you ever heard of TMJ?

The information said that medical examiners look at teeth and I have had more then alot of trouble with my teeth being mislocated. (my left front tooth had been located behind my right fang*?) Also, probably around ten years ago, I had a problem with crackling in my ears when I had touched that part of my ear/jaw... It also mentioned that...However it says that this happens constantly and this only happens sometimes for me. I might have been chewing gum or something at the time and that may have caused it, not sure. Still.. Nothings happened for ~10 years until a while ago.Since the only plan of attack for solving the problem is inserting some sort of medical splint in my jaw, I will hold off if it gets worse. Thanks for the information.

Not really sure about treatment...I dated someone who claimed to have had it, and the problem seemed to come and go.

i was going to say TMJ. my friend has it and says it botheres the hell out of her (well, obviously). when she opens her mouth wide enough, you can hear it pop, and she says it grinds and irritates her ears and jaw. she got it from being in a car crash somehow, and has to wear something similar to a retainer to help to fix it.
