Ok I had a weird rash on my cheek last March that went away after about two weeks. A few weeks later I get another rash in the same place and it lasts for about two weeks. I have extremely sensitive skin, and I can only use specific brands of soap, lotion, etc. I figured that it might be my hairspray, or laundry detergent, or something irritating my skin that is causing this rash. It comes and goes a few more times and I decide to go to the dermatologist. The rash clears up and I cancel my appointment. It is gone for months. I havent made any significant changes in my eating habits, or the products I use. Then one day its back. I call my doc again, and once again the rash is gone by the time my appointment comes around, but I decide to go anyway. I tell her everything I just told you, and she tells me she believes its herpes type 1. She says its common and not to worry. She then scrapes my face with a microscope slide and 5 mins later she confirms its herpes. I guess here's where all my questions come in...1.I thought you had to do a blood test for herpes?2. If it infact was herpes, would she be able to tell even though the breakout wasnt active? She prescribed some pills and ointment, which I havent taken. Im thinking about getting a second opinion. I thought herpes-1 was a cold sore/fever bllister type thingy, not a rash? Any ideas would be appreciated.....

if it were me i would get a second opinion. i was actually leaning towards exzema (sp?) but i could be wrong

[this is to ME_MYSELF....sorry aTa]My youngest son has exzema and it comes and goes throughout the cold months. (you know how long those months last in Ohio ) I honestly thought that is what you were describing. I think I would probably get a second opinion also. I really don't know anything about herpes though, so sorry. It's nice to see you back though!

Thanks guys, exzema hadn't even entered my mind. Im going to get my second opinion in 2 weeks. I certainly hope it is in fact exzema and not herpes.Helms, thnx for the link, but I've been googling for a while now. Do u know the answers to #1 or 2? It would definately put my mind at ease while I wait these 2 weeks. My rash doesn't look like the pics of herpes rashes. So im really confused now. The ointment she prescribed says dont use on or near your face (minus any type of "unless otherwise directed by your physician"). And I am gererally not one to pop a pill unless its absolutely necessary. I have to have a splitting headache before I even think of taking a tylenol. So I guess I'll just have to wait and see.....

His kids were named Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Rodan and Diva.I'd heard that he told his wife that she could choose between Moon Unit and Motorhead...don't know if that's really true.
