What do you suppose would happen to a person if they had it and were never treated for it? Say over 20 years later? What do you think that would do to a person's body?

Lyme Disease

well reading this there are severe and very noticable symptoms if left untreated.............. The first sign of infection is usually a circular rash called erythema migrans or EM. This rash occurs in approximately 70-80% of infected persons and begins at the site of a tick bite after a delay of 3-30 days. A distinctive feature of the rash is that it gradually expands over a period of several days, reaching up to 12 inches (30 cm) across. The center of the rash may clear as it enlarges, resulting in a bull’s-eye appearance. It may be warm but is not usually painful. Some patients develop additional EM lesions in other areas of the body after several days. Patients also experience symptoms of fatigue, chills, fever, headache, and muscle and joint aches, and swollen lymph nodes. In some cases, these may be the only symptoms of infection. Untreated, the infection may spread to other parts of the body within a few days to weeks, producing an array of discrete symptoms. These include loss of muscle tone on one or both sides of the face (called facial or “Bell’s palsy), severe headaches and neck stiffness due to meningitis, shooting pains that may interfere with sleep, heart palpitations and dizziness due to changes in heartbeat, and pain that moves from joint to joint. Many of these symptoms will resolve, even without treatment. After several months, approximately 60% of patients with untreated infection will begin to have intermittent bouts of arthritis, with severe joint pain and swelling. Large joints are most often effected, particularly the knees. In addition, up to 5% of untreated patients may develop chronic neurological complaints months to years after infection. These include shooting pains, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, and problems with concentration and short term memory.

From the CDC Web site?

yeah, i didn't try and pass it off as me being intelligent did i? sigh

Calm down. All I'm saying, as I often do, to many people, including one who claims to write (freelance) for a newspaper, and a moderator, is to credit your sources. It's not hard to do, and it's unfair if you don't, especially if there's any question about how the quote was excepted.
-
She's not a moderator.Jeez...
-
Not sure what you meant. I just gave two example of people to whom I've mentioned it, to show that I'm not picking on anyone in particular.
It applies to everyone, whether they're ten years old, or whether they own this site.
-
well if I say something its in purple, if its from someone or somewhere else its not...............i would never claim something as my own if it wasn't, what are you the moral police or somat? rolls eyes oh and don't tell me to calm down, its patronising and by that you imply that I wasn't calm, you pointing out stupid things doesn't stress me out, its so not important.
-
I don't think anyone thought you composed that essay, but: It's proper to cite one's information sources when quoting them.Is there some part of that sentence that you disagree with?
-
nope, but you're not my tutor so stop acting like one, like anyone gives a shit! .......you quote till your hearts content steve.......is there any part of that sentence you didn't understand?
-
Ah, temperament. It's not a matter of quoting or not quoting; it's a matter of citing your quotation source. I'll assume that either you didn't fully agree, or that you're just being difficult.
-
**you take patronising to another level steve, I don't disagree nor am i being difficult, I just don't care *shrugs* **
-
If in the first place you would have said:1) Yes, I agree.2) You're an sshle.then we could have saved some typing and posting.
-
Steve, she posted something that was helpful in the thread. She didn't try to pass it off as her own. Now take a chill-pill and calm down because you are not the forum police for quotes...!!!
-
So are you saying that being helpful is an excuse? Is it really that hard to cite the source of a quote? Do you understand why it's useful to do so? In this case, it's not a question of the poster having written it, but...It is proper to cite one's information sources when quoting. Is there a part of this sentence that you disagree with?As a practical matter, citing the source lets you go back to find more detailed information. And sometimes quotes are out-of-context and selective, changing the meaning of what was originally written.I can't believe the lack of respect people have for the work of others. With cutting and pasting on computers now so easy, plagiarism has become routine in high school and university papers. Professors now have to jump through hoops to find out who really wrote the papers (or large parts of them) that people turn in.Citing sources sets a good example. Doing otherwise affirms the idea that it's OK to copy freely. Aren't the grownups supposed to set a good example?
-
Yes she should have cited it. It's illegal not to do so. She made a mistake now let's move on everyone.
-
No one is going to go to jail for copying U.S. government Web site content without attribution. But citing quoted content is of practical use, and it's just the right thing to do.It's not just an issue in this particular case; it's something that applies in general.
-
In reply to: She made a mistake now let's move on everyone. Which part of this statement by A MODERATOR did you not understand, Steve?
-
I understood it well. Obviously I didn't agree with the statement in toto, or I would not have replied. Clearly you also disagreed, or you wouldn't have jumped on the pig pile.As an academic guy, do you have a disagreement with my assertion vis-à-vis crediting sources? I assume not. Now wouldn't it have been easer if the person in question had said something like "Oh, OK", rather than engaging in a big push-back exercise? In any case, isn't citing sources something that everyone should do?
-
WTF? In reply to: Clearly you also disagreed, or you wouldn't have jumped on the pig pile. What in the name of Pete are you talking about?!?Can't you just let it go? It's over. Done with. Stop trying to pull others into it and drag it out.It you aren't careful, you're going to have everyone here walking on freakin eggshells.
