I last posted in October with lifting questions. Since beginning lifting I have gained 3 pounds but have dropped a pant size (go me!) I've increased the weight amounts on all my exercises, bout 30% on the upper body and over 50% on the lower. My upper body isnt where I thought it would be, (is that 'cause I'm female?) though I'm still really excited about the progress I've made.
Now for the However..
I'm feeling more compact and firm, however thats just it, one has to touch me to feel the strength. To see me, I'm still really pudgy. I want to be able to show off the muscles I have gained but still have a heavy layer of fat. So I've decided that I want to go back into weight loss mode. Drop perhaps another 30 pounds.
I saw the bulk and cut comment by helms, that's kinda what I want but I also don't want to lose the strength I've gained. And now am confused again about how to proceed.
My prior weight loss (75 pounds) didn't include lifting, and now that I'm lifting, the scale numbers haven't moved. I want the fat loss and the muscle growth, but don't understand how to put it all together. Do I have to choose one or the other? -eMie

Fat loss or lifting?

You dont have to choose either or. You can combine cardio and weightlifting, people do it all the time. this way while your building mass, your burning off fat that may be surrounding your muscles, thus giving you more definition. The only advice i would give is to make sure you lift BEFORE you do any cardio

In reply to: The only advice i would give is to make sure you lift BEFORE you do any cardio Any reason in particular? I'm in kinda the same position as the OP.

If you want to go for a long hard run, bike, etc. and cardio is your priority then it should be at the start of your workout when you're fresh. Vice versa, if weightlifting if your priority and you just want to burn some extra calories, then you want to be able to lift what you can normally lift at the start of a workout without being tired, and finish with some cardio.
