First ill start the fact that im 20 but i felt that this board was the best suited. In everyday life i am not a nervous person i am very confident and little fazes me....Until today...Today i went for a fitness Test for the Police (Which i passed yay!) BUT i was very nervous, so much so i acctually felt sick down the side of the car i was in on the way to the test. When i got there (i had a mint to get rid of sick breath ) i was a little shakey, i went to reception and said and registered for the test, then came the wait, 8 mins of it. Not a lot you may say but it felt like hours. I did have to run outside breifly to get my head togeather then i played on my phone to try to take my mind off things when i went back in.Shortly after the fitess test instructor guy came in and whilst he was talking i was mostly fine then came the physical stuff. Started with a bleep test. I got to level 8 which was a respectable pass although i probably could have done longer if i felt better, i did at one point feel like i was gonna throw up but i held myself togeather. Then for the remainer the strength tests i felt a little uneasy and thourght i was gonna feel sick again but i managed to get by.Like i said i passed but my bodies reaction to the ordeal made what should have been a straitforward thing a struggle of mind over matter.I've got more to go through before i complete the recruitment process, how can i stop myself getting nervous like this? I need help and advice as this aint a good position to be in.

Nervousness

Try not to think about it so much. Sometime the anticipation is harder to deal with that the actual event. Use deep breathing exercises and just try to relax. I'm sure you'll do fine. What you've describe sounds like run of the mill anxiety. Just shows that you actually care about this, and sounds like you don't really care about things in everyday life to the same degree.

I think you felt so nervous because it was a HUGE thing in your life.. You needed to pass that test! This happens to me all the time.. especially when I'm coming up around exams.. I almost threw up when i was driving to one of them!

I really do care about becoming a police officer, i have changed a lot in the past few months and have sacrificed the chance to goto university to concentrate on my application, my attitude has also changed for the better.
I have done a bit of research and it could have been a bit of a panic attack. The weird thing is i wasn't really thinking about it a great deal, on the 10 mile drive to the fitness test i was fine for the first 4 or so miles then started feeling worse for the next few and then within a mile of the place acctually being sick wasn't good. As i expect it will happen again i will be taking into account breathing exercises which hopefully should help. Theory is once i get going i should be ok...
ps. Happy 21st B.day to me!

Hey Dog. Happy 21th….I get an upset stomach every time I have something really important to deal with. I too have thrown up. I have learned to be less stressful by asking myself just one question. Can I totally control this (Insert situation here)???If the answer is NO… then I tell myself not to worry about it. I have learned to control my anxiety… If I can’t control it…whatever it is… 100 percent, then I don’t allow myself to get stressed out about it...Good luck on your police training. You sound like you have got what it takes to be the best of the best.Be safe and relax…..

Happy 21st, Max!!

That makes totally sense then. If you made a big decision and basically haven't planned for what to do if this doesn't work out then you'd of coarse be nervous.
