As some of you may know im currently working my way through the recruitment process for the Police which has been my main motivation to get into shape.Naturally the role requires you to be pretty darn fit.I work over 40 mins of cardio including 12 mins on a bike, 10 mins on the rowing machine, 8mins on an arm machine (like the bike but with your arms) and 12 mins on the running machine. After that i'll do 5 weight machines, 3 upper body, 2 legs. Its an intense workout and im doing it 3 times a week. For my police application i need a BMI of 19 but im concerned that im burning off more than im putting on, i've been training for about 5 weeks and i've lost 2 pounds, i have a BMI of 19.8 but my target is about 22.5.I haven't really been eating a great deal more. I've been told muscle weighs more than fat. Im on the theory that the more i excersie the more food i'll eat so i should gain weight as my body will store more and as my muscles build i'll gain extra weight there. Am i right? Is this routine ok?

You might want to consider splitting your program into individual focus groups. Do certain parts of the body on different days. You might want to do a leg day, upper body day, and only do a little cardio on those days, then do a very intense cardio workout on your third day. This will give you more chance to rest and recover each part of your body, and you should be able to go harder on each of your workouts.

No, your not right, atleast not yet.Eventually your body levels out after you start a program.when that happens instead of just losing you will start gaining. Remeber though teh more cardio you do the more fat loss there is. The more weights you lift the more gain there is.muscle does weight more then fat so the big thing is your losing sizes not weight. look at how many inches you lost instead of just what you weigh.eventually it starts going back up but at that time its all or atleast mostly muscle instead of the fat that you were packing around earlier.I may not be 100% on what I saidf but thats the way it is, or atleast the way I understand it.probaly your best bet is to wait for Helms to see this post, hes got his shit on this subject down pretty well.Im sure he isnt the only one but he is the one that I know the best when it comes to this subject.

Dude, Becoming a policeman seems like a lot of work. You didn’t say how old you were or what your weight and height are… but the standard BMI is 19-25It seems like your right on target and right where you should be…

I'm 21 at the moment but strength and stamina are equally important. Whats the point of being super big and strong if you dont have the stamina to chase someone down?
Having said that, being physically imposing would make it less likely that people will try to fight you so really both are important.
Naturally weight helps in these situations.
I guess a Rowers or a boxers type program would be ideal as there strong and extremely fit, especially in the upper body.
