Am I like the only straight man in the world who gets excited about the Academy Awards? I plan my year around them. I could give a rip about the red carpet and who wears who and looks good or doesn't or whatever. I like it for the awards themselves. Cause I'm a film junkie I guess. Even when the nominees suck (like this year) I still love them.My thoughts:Picture: Should win - Munich. Will win - Brokeback Mountain.Director: Should win - Stephen Spielberg for Munich. Will win - Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain.Actor: Should win - Joaquin Phoenix for Walk the Line. Will win - Phillip Seymour Hoffman for CapoteActress: Should win and will win - Reese Witherspoon for Walk the LineSupp. Actor: Should win - Paul Giamatti for Cinderella Man. Will win - George Clooney for Syriana.Supp. Actress: Should win - Amy Adams for Junebug. Will win - Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardener. We'll see...

Worst time of the year in my books lol

im glad crash one best picture - now that was a really good film. some of the films i havnt seen, like the george clooney one or capote. i was expecting broke back mountain to go with all of the awards. walk the line was a good film - dont think the acting was that oscar worthy like reese witherspoon, she played it well but she always plays those giggly girl roles..kiera knightly defantley shouldnt have been in the best actress group, no matter how good she looks, lol
-
Well I agree Broke Back mountain SHOULD of won best picture but instead Crash (A movie I never heard of) won. Alittle upsetting. From what I heard it's because the judges are mainly from LA and the movie and a lot of it's actors and such were from LA. So the judges were taken care of their own. So sad.Anyways I didn't watch the whole show last night, just the last hour or so.

crash is an excellent movie, you should watch it

I'm not into award shows. I thought Brokeback Mountain was a bit overrated, and I love me some hot cowboy on cowboy lovin'. I saw Crash three times in theaters and a few times on DVD. Munich probably should have won Best Picture, I loved it, but I think it came out a bit late and got smothered by Brokeback Mountain's press. My problem with Brokeback Mountain is... the movie just didn't seem to have enough (no, not sex). Twenty minutes after leaving the theater I had already forgotten most of it. The acting was superb but the story itself just didn't seem enough for me. Munich stayed with me long after I left the theater. Capote and Crash, more so. Walk The Line is on my Netflix queue.

Now see I seen the movie differently. I LOVED brokeback mountain. The acting was superb, you're right. The storyline was awesome and very well done. Every movie has something lacking in the storyline, but that's because when a movie is based off a book the movie cannot cover everything in the book. The movie really tugged at my heart strings, and if a movie can do that than I know its good lol.

Brokeback Mountain was a gay movie. Oh ummmm yeah... nevermind..
-
I didn't get to see the Oscars this year (had plans) but I'm glad to hear that Crash won best picture! That was an amazing movie and I recomend that every person either go out and buy or rent it, because I think everyone needs to see this movie alteast once. It is a very emotional movie, and it shows all the diffrent sides of racism and bigotry; how one racist slur can affect so many people. It's a brilliant movie.Eddie, you've heard of Crash, you and I had a long talk about that movie as well as racism and bigotry (and there was a movie you said you had to watch in high school... gah, can't think of the name right now).
-
But Brokeback wasn't based on a book. IT was based on a short story. I think that's part of the problem. Fifteen page stories don't translate well into two hour movies. It was good, but not great. Crash...I saw it again this week and liked it even less. I couldn't believe how convoluted the plot was. Please... The acting was great, but the story was way too inplausible. I would have preferred Brokeback.Although Munich should have won. It was in a totally diferrent category than the rest.Walk the Line should have been nominated. I think it wasn't political enough for this year.
-
But had walk teh line been done earlier like ohhh 2003, it would of swept evrything.Sympathy and memory are great motivators for people who are judging.
-
Well...2003 was the year of The Lord of The Rings.Maybe 2002, or 2006.
-
Wouldnt of mattered, 2003 is when Johnny died following the close death (I think it was about 4 or 5 month before his) of his wife.
-
And your point???
-
>Eddie, you've heard of Crash, you and I had a long talk about that movie as well as racism and bigotry (and there was a movie you said you had to watch in high school... gah, can't think of the name right now).
Oh yeah! LoL. Forgot about that. The movie I talked about was the movie "Kids".
And Damien you are right it was a short story, my mistake. But from my understanding they are baking a full book from the short story. I do think they left some things out of movie that was in the short story, but heard those will be in the directors cut... which I am excited to see!
Regardless, Brokeback Mountain is one of the best movies I have seen in a really long time. And unlike I think Sdp was trying to say, it has nothing to do with it being a Gay movie either. Sad though it couldn't be categorized with a Love story instead of people labeling it as Gay movie.
