Root canal

It's not route.. it's Root Canal.
Incredibly painful?? I don't know about that. My wife is a Dental Assistant and says the dentist numbs the area much more than when they do any regular dental work. It may ache afterwards but they should usually give you some hefty pain meds. If you have serious pain in that tooth, then a root canal should bring a lot of relief.

**I had root canal treatment last year, it DOESNT hurt, it was no different to a normal filling except maybe it took a while longer from start to finish. **

Hrmm, well thats alot off my mind
Cheers all.

**Best of luck with it  **

I never had one, but good luck hun!

I had one, but I'll save my story until after yours is over.I can tell you this, if you have a competent dentist who's doing it right, it's more of an annoyance than a real pain.

Root Canals are NOT incredibly painful. I just had a root Canal 2-3 weeks ago and worked that same day. I was even given Percocet for pain meds and only took one because I wasn't sure what to expect.I have worked in a dental office for 4 years, truth me you'll be fine. Your doctor will numb the area thoroughly and you'll feel nothing, hell the numbing is the most “painful” part of the whole procedure. After the procedure there might be a dull, annoying pain (And truth me it's more annoying than painful) but I never had any pain sensation after my root canal.

Try getting wisdom teeth removed... I was put to sleep but the pain I felt over the next couple days (and still a week later) was awful. I know someone who's had a root canal and he said that it was more the psychological pain than anything, anticipating and worrying about it. With good anesthetic it's not that bad and it's certainly not as bad as getting wisdom teeth removed (they need to remove a bit of bone to get at them in the back of my mouth since they were just popping up, but there was so little room).

The thing with a root canal is that the "root" or nerve is removed. Once it is removed, that tooth can no longer feel pain. The only pain will be from the very bottom where the nerve came from.
