Power Point question
-
you can not.least not that my fiance could discover. She had to do a preentation for school on geology so we went out to antelope island (long story here, oldest rocks on earth, much geoligical sights blah blah blah....) and its only an hour from us. she took an ass load of pictures and in addition to the geolegy part there was indian writings and indians hunted there and kit carson was there at one time and freemont stayed on the island while surveying the lake to make themaps of utah and fshit like that so she wanted ot add some music and drums to play as back ground so we found some from a buddy of mine who is a Ute indian. she sould attach them to a slide but could not find a way to make it play background all the way thru al the picture and narration she had for the report. we diecided that it was to big a pain to add it to each slide and have to have it restartf the music rather then staying constant, it did not sound very good with the interuption of flow. she finally decided to lose the entire sound effect background rather then do it that way.this was about ayear ago and maybe there is a way to do it, but we couldnt find it fwhen we needed it.

Yes you can.. my son did it for a school presentation. You have to include the song as a seperate file along with the powerpoint file. It can't be embedded. I'll have to look it up though.

Add, music, songs, or sound effects
Display the slide to which you want to add music or sound effects.
On the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and then do one of the following:
Insert a sound fileClick Sound from File, locate the folder that contains the file that you want, and then double-click the file.
Insert a sound clip from Clip OrganizerClick Sound from Clip Organizer, scroll to find the clip that you want, and then click it to add it to the slide.
Note To search for clips in the Clip Organizer, fill in the Search for box, and then click Go. To get more information about finding the clip that you want, including details about finding files by using wildcard characters and about adding your own clips to the Clip Organizer, click Tips for finding clips at the bottom of the task pane.Double-click the sound file that you want to insert.
When a message is displayed, do one of the following:
To play the music or sound automatically when you go to the slide, click Automatically.
To play the music or sound only when you click the sound icon , click When Clicked.
To adjust the settings for when the sound file stops, click the sound icon , right-click, and then click Custom Animation.
In the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow on the selected item in the Custom Animation list, and then click Effect Options.
On the Effect tab, under Stop playing, do one of the following:
To stop the sound file on mouse-click of this slide, select On click (the default).
To stop the sound file after this slide, select After current slide.**To keep the sound file playing for several slides, select After, and then set the total number of slides the file should play on. **

You bastard!! Proving me wrong Where was fthis info last year when I needed it?like I said, you cant as far as I could figure it out a year ago, looks like your kid is one up on me in the power point catagory
-
You're amazing!I'm gonna try it right now.I knew there was a way to do it cause I've seen presentations where it happened. Thanks!
-
Yeah my kid did this over 1.5 yrs ago... So yeah... basically you suck HAHAHA
-
Okay...I tried that and found it was basically what I was doing yesterday. Here's what's happening, in case someone wants to take it on and figure it out. When I click on Sound from file no files show up in the box until I switch the file type from sound files to all files . Then when I double click on a file I get an error message that says PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You should save presentation, exit, and restart PowerPoint When I click on Sound from gallery (which I'm assuming is your Sound from clip organizer) I get an error message that says The server application, source file, or item can't be found. You should reinstall the server application. This is infinitely frustrating! The presentation I'm working on is all images and no text, so it is a must that I have appropriate music.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Which version of powerpoint are you using? When you insert and the selection is sound files, does it show which extensions it is looking for? What type of sound file do you want to use?Sounds like your powerpoint might be corrupt and needs a reinstallation.
-
I'm using PowerPoint 97When I try to use a sound file, it doesn't indicate anywhere that I can see what extension it is looking for.I am trying to use an MP3 file.
-
I just opened the same version you are using. It seems that the only extensions it will accept are .wav, .rmi, & .mid
the version you are using is pretty old so I don't know if there is a plug-in for mp3's... Perhaps you can try converting the mp3 to a wav file.
-
In reply to: Perhaps you can try converting the mp3 to a wav file. How does one do that?
-
Like I said before..You Bastard!
-
make sure you have good content before you get fancy please!! I've sat through so many that lacked both power and point.I often find myself modifying the corporate ones I get before I present them
-
I'm actually doing a "photo-therapy" project with the boys at the residential facility where I'm doing my practicum. We spent a couple of weeks talking about story and then looked at how they can use creative ways to tell their stories. I them gave them all a disposable camera. I told them it was the last camera on earth and their goal was to use that camera to tell a story about their future.I want to incorporate their results into a multi-media presentation.
-
I figured it out!Okay...actually I upgraded to the 2003 version and it does exactly what I want it to do. I can make one song last for 10 slides, choose another song for the next 15 slides, and so on.Thanks for all your help!
-
Yeah 2003 is much better. Glad you worked it out.

Want to see realfly bad ones ? sit thru federal government power point slides that tell you alot of shit in seconds with an asshole clicking next every 30 seconds. NO time to read the entier slide and its boring as shit going over DOT regulations for transporting explosives and all the bullshit number codes that governt it.There is no way to make it interesting you just have to get thru it and find a way to memorize it for the certification testing. Boring boring shit and a lousy format to get someone to get it in thier head.

I had to do a presentation on bullying and its implications for residential settings this past Tuesday. I basically had to take 40 minutes of info and cram it into 15. I felt like I did exactly what you were describing. Fortunately, no one was going to be responsible for remembering any specifics. I just wanted to leave an impression, which I think I did. Got good feedback. But you're right. Presentations where the person is just reading one slide after another. I"m thinking I don't need the person and the slides both!
