is it illegal to use a picture for a backround that you found on google or something?
-
Copyright laws?
-
a background for what?I tend to concider the net as public domain. That said, I try to give some credit in fine print when I steal an immage for a PP presentation or something like that
-
IT actually is.while the net is public domain, image on a site are copyright of the sites owner. Most peope dont give a shit so long as you dont direct link from them and so ong as you give vredit, but it so easy to contact a site owner and ask permission.Nearly all websites havea catchall account. anything@websitename.com or net what ever the site is.even if ther eis no such addy, it goes into teh catch al account for emial. If there is cotact info use that to contact and ask.If you direct link, you steal bandwidth and bandwidth isnt fucking cheap. each time someone views you rpage it pulls its image from the owner page and costs him Bandwidth.after obtaining permission, save the image to yur own shit, imageshack,us or what ever, site owner have enough shit to deal with with out stealing the bandwidth and art.I normally tae images I care about and put a copyright on them to discourage theft.

So if I posted some of my photography on another message board, there is a chance that someone else could be using it in thier powerpoint presentation and taking credit for the work?
That sucks. -
well i dont mean for a powerpoint just as a desktop backround.
-
There is always that chance. Anythingf you put on the net, no matter what you do to it there is a way to have someone steal it and use it as thier own.
I like to put my pics up as a clear pic, put a background image behind it that says some shit about copyright and stuff that is white with black letters. someone right clicks and saves or copy and saves it and all they get is the background image. Of course that requires you to write two directories, one for the real pics and one for th background pic. If I can click and get properties, I have the directory it in and can get to it that way, so you have to have the two, make teh real pic dir, some obscure name because if you name it image, people will find it. You can disable right clicking but you lose traffic that way as it pisses people off for some reason. If its a personal web page, who cares about traffic ? if its a business, that traffic translates into advertiing dollars based on how many people see your site.As far as using it for a background on your desktop, I honestly doubt anyone would give a flying fuck so ong as you didnt alter the pic and then repost it claiming it as your own work. just to be a background on a personal comuter, who would even know you did it ?
-
That's why there is a save as option with the right click. You just can't sell it as your own. I can get anything I want for free on the net.
-
cant sell or use it as your own and cant even use it with ut permission, legally speaking of course.and like I said, its easy to disable richt clicking on any page you write.thats enought to stop most surfers from saving yur shit to use as they please.
