In about two weeks I'm going to this dance. I was asked to go, not on a date or anything, by this girl I met last night. Should be great. There wont be alcohol or naything as its organised by the Mormon church who dont permit the drinking of alcohol, other than that I'm sure it'll be just like normal.Thing is I havnt gone to this kind of thing before. That must sound very wierd to some people. I used to be into different things, I'd go to punk-rock clubs and jump around to the music, but thats way different.I'm not sure what to expect. I feel like I'm 14 again, going into social situations where I havnt a clue what to expect. I know its a very general question but can I have nay advice? Do I have to dance? How does one do so?

Been asked to go to this dance

Well do you have her number or will you be talking to her at all over the next 2 weeks? Cause then you can just ask her what its gonna be like. How formal it is and stuff. I've only ever been to one "dance" before, last year. Was crap for me but thats simply cause everyone was drinking but me. Since you won't have that problem, I'm sure it will be grand.
-
yeh how formal is it? black tie?
-
remeber that dances are what you make it. You can have a great time but you have to provide it for yourself. If you stand around too shy to dance then thats no fun is it!

Punk rock clubs? you mean u went to shows?anyways i would just bail on the dance, dances are usually pretty lame and no fun at all, especially if it is going to be at a mormon church.

When I say punk rock clubs, I mean exactly what I say. We had this place we could go to most nearly every saturday and there would be an assortment of local punk bands. It wasnt like a normal rock gig, it had a kinda clubby feel. In reply to: anyways i would just bail on the dance, dances are usually pretty lame and no fun at all, especially if it is going to be at a mormon church. No way am I gunna bail on it. What would I gain from not turning up other than continued social isolation? Plus I dont see whats wrong with it at the mormon ward, they arent like other churchs, it has like a gymnasium and all sorts (which i think is where their holding the dnace. The importnat thhing is it will be young people, 14-18, and I'd love to meet some. She told me its casual.

Go! Have fun!I went to a friend's Holloween party this past year. She and her wealthy partner had a killer setup with a dj and I danced the night away. Something I hadn't done for years. I too was reluctant to go...social phobias and crap...but ended up having a blast. Of course, the two saucy girls I danced with all night didn't hurt.
-
I've never really danced like that though . Its different with what I'm used to, we would all jump around banging into each other.
I'm kinda worried I'm gunna look like a dork
-
You are a dork tho. Just go with it!

If that is so then I must reign in my dorkness for at least one night, for attractive blonde is involved.
