Hello all, just wondering whether anyone on here has had sinus problems that has led to a sinus operation (removal of pollyps and scraping of sinuses). I've had alot of trouble over the last 3 years and my doc suggests i go and have the operation. Has anyone had this operation. Thanks

SINUS problems

yeah i had a scan on my sinus passages 3 years ago and pollyps showed in each nostril. I was given somac to reduce them which they did, but it was only a temporary solution. So now it looks like i'll need the operation to have the pollyps removed and inturn have the sinuses scraped. I was told b4 that i will have to take 3-4 weeks off work coz of the bleeding and bruising and will have to stay overnight in hospital to keep an eye on me due to the bleeding. It doesnt sound that promising, but if it has to be done it has to b done hehe.

I had a deviated septum twice and had to have surgery twice on it. It sucked.

Hey Amanda, i have a slightly bent septum bone as well and was told that that would be straightened as well. Was tha part of the operation painful for u?

The recovery is a bitch. I guess it depends on if your nose is put in splints afterwards or packed with gauze. The second time I had the surgery I had splints up my nose, which was definitely more painful, but at least I could breathe for the next week. The first time around my nose was packed with gauze afterwards, I didn't feel much pain, but I couldn't breathe for a week and it drove me nuts. I also had complications the first time around, where my incision wasn't healing properly, so my recovery took about 2 months.

ooh that doesnt sound to promising. Thanks for that. U see my problem is more my sinuses than my septum bone. My specialist said that my nose would be broken as well as removing the pollyps and scraping the sinuses, and that he was going to do the spetum bone while i was under AS WELL.I imagine my recovery would be crap regarding how bad ur's was Amanda.
