hi everyone. i really really need your help. im starting to get together with this guy and he was in a car crash about a week and a half ago. everyone had been drinking and he got in the car with the girl that was driving to make sure she was ok but somehow the car flipped forward on a fire break in a forest and everyone was flung out the windows of the car. the driver was killed, someone crushed their arm under the car, another person has a hairline fracture in their neck, one of them has serious brain damage and just came round from a coma and Will had a broken tail bone and a fractured skull. he was in a coma for a day, woke up for about half an our, had a seizure and went back into a coma. that happened about 7 times that night. when he came round from his coma he had a sort of stammer and couldnt get his words out quite right. ive been seeing him a lot the past week and on wednesday i noticed something that was a little worrying. every now and again he'll stammer just like he did when he came round from the coma. it doesnt last long and im not even sure if he notices it. also he sometimes comes across likes he's "tired" and his head kind of falls and he's all drowsy. he discharged himself from hospital the morning after the seizures and didnt even stay long enough to get the glass out of his head and im just so worried that hes going to have another seizure when no-ones around and something's going to happen to him. i could try to get him back to the hospital but it's unlikely he'll listen. how bad a sign is this stammering? is it just his brain healing? any info about this would be greatthanks

Head injury - stammering?

After a head injury the brain swells and this can cause many things to happen, slurred speach, drowsiness, etc.........depending on the severity, or whether there has been actual damage or if its just swelling - it can pass quickly or take its time to heal. Your friend sounds like he has had a bad time, what a horrible thing to happen, so his head injury may take time to 'heal' or it could leave him with permanant things like the odd stutter, or 'droopyness' when over tired etc...........If you are worried ask the consultant/s for advice. I wish all involved a very speedy recovery.
