So you gone to saying god is a basketball player. The bible isn't the only thing you take literally.> Wows I have to say you can’t prove anything. This discussion is not played out yet?I lose my patience when someone just keeps repeating the same thing over and over, ad nauseum, and cites scripture over and over. I can't prove the non-existence of God any more than you can prove that I'm not God, but both ideas are equally silly. We can further explore the idea of why they're equally silly if you'd like. Why does an omniscient being need an army of defenders anyway? Why can't he speak for himself? (As was pointed out in Jesus Christ, Superstar, there was no mass communication back when God was so chatty.)I've spent a lot of time in little Haiti (it gets pretty rough once you venture off Biscayne Boulevard). I've been though more crap than you can imagine. All is well now. I never gained any religious faith through the process though. Given some of that stuff, I would have been horrified if I believed there was some kind of god overseeing it. "Compassionate" would certainly not have been an appropriate description if him/her/it.> something I know to be trueHey, I don't even know if objective reality is true, but if you know what you believe to be true, what is there to discuss?I'm happy for you that your life has taken a good turn. I don't like your implication that you're superior because you didn't need to seek psychiatric help. I can't speak for you, but I've met people who have exchanged one addiction (e.g., drugs) for another one (obsession with Jesus and scripture). I suppose it's healthier, and easier to function, if you're strung out on Jesus rather than heroin or meth. But intellectually, it's pretty much the same thing.----------------------"God exists, I know it, I have faith.""I don't see it. Prove it."Then repeat and repeat and repeat. That's how arguments about the existence of God necessarily go.

Does god exist?
-
It's pretty easy to prove that you're not god, let me telll you how; You will die isn't that true how can you be god if you can't live the time that humanity has lived. You will also be forgotten last time I check god was in the beginning of humanity to this day and I think we are going to believe in him tommorrow and 20 years from now. Last you are so blind to see miracles and called them conisendences how can you be god if you can't change somebody's life. Wow you been to little haiti I lived there big difference trust me seeing and living hads its diffferences. What I meant by my last post is if you grew up how i grew up you wouldn't believe there is barely any chance you would believe, but god changed me I could back and live there again be broke and no matter what i still believe because I don't live off the riches of the world I live by what is inside my heart. You have to understand I have peace something money can't buy i have freedom I could choose not to believe, but I have expirience so it would be ignorant of me not to believe, and last I have salvation so no matter if i die a good death a bad death am poor or if I'm rich I know where I'm going. You know why I repeat the same thing over and over again because it gets to you every time because you can't answer. God does exist open your heart and you will find it or is that to hard for a genius.

This conversation has long been over.

i have freedom I could choose not to believeNo you don't. No you couldn't. Don't fool yourself. If you're happy believing what you believe, go ahead and continue to do so.Few people believed in the divinity of Jesus while he was alive. If you'll come back to Miami, I'll perform a miracle for you. I'll make it rain cod, which is a tasty fish.> is that to hard for a genius.Jesus taught us the golden rule, and turning the other cheek. I haven't been able to find anything in the scriptures about the goodness of being obnoxious.Nothing very clever is being added to this "debate". Unless your next post is a proof of God using predicate logic (in my opinion, St. Augustine's "proof" does not impress), I think we're done.
-
Yehi don't have a choice so if I just decide tommorrow not to go to church and believe in god than I don't have a choice. Yeh but I chose to believe my whole life I didn't my choice was not to believe, but now I chooose to believe so don't say I don't. He said turn the other cheek if your getting slap yet jesus was a debator he argued and he knew the answer to the question before the question even arrive. Don't worry i lived in miami seen enough fish but never seen you make 6000 fish out 1 do that i'll be amazed. God defines all logic for what he can do is beyond our logic learn that and you'll have more wisdom than most men. Your right you have no debate because your mind couldn't change no ones mind and neighter could mind but god has made a difference you actually made mistakes and just by me "repeating" what I said. Goodbye steveA and god bless may you change your mind one day.

Heeeey, haven't you used a lot of naughty language, and mightn't it be be offensive to some members and browsers, madame instigator? I suggest you consider other peoples sensitivites before you post.
Now, do you have anything to add to this thread on meaning and existence?

As a result of some 4th grade class project, the governor of Florida, who happens to be the president's brother, has decided that "In God we Trust" should be made Florida's official state motto (it's already Florida's unofficial motto, and on all U.S. currency).Every election cycle (i.e., every two years), the Republicans throw red meat to their conservative base, starting around Independence Day (July 4th). There was the gay marriage constitutional amendment, the flag burning constitutional amendment, and now Florida (and probably other states) are jumping in.It looks like the legislators don't have anything truly important to worry about. I mean, has there been a rash of flag burnings?I wonder how people would feel about the motto saying "In Mohammed we trust", or "In Vishnu we trust", or "In karma we trust". Either religious people are so insecure in their beliefs that they have to be constantly reminded that they believe in God, or they're saying that if you don't agree with them, you're worthless. (George H. W. Bush did say that an atheist can't be patriotic, and George W. Bush said that people who don't accept Jesus are going to hell.)

"I wonder how people would feel about the motto saying "In Mohammed we trust", or "In Vishnu we trust", or "In karma we trust". Either religious people are so insecure in their beliefs that they have to be constantly reminded that they believe in God, or they're saying that if you don't agree with them, you're worthless."Nope...would you care to try again? It used to be in our history books, but has long since been erased. This country was founded by Christians, and they injected parts of their belief system (and the Bible) into our Constitution, our Bill of Rights and our very system of government. You can thank them for the freedoms we enjoy in this country...which include the oft misunderstood separation between church and state. (Hint: See if you can find anything similar in a country that is predominantly any of the other religions you quoted.) My guess is that you've had a rather recent, public education as to the history of this country...something that has been twisted and distorted over time by the "educators" of this country.
-
The educators?try the writers of the books. he who wins writes history. How about counrtys responsible for world war II happeneing and teaching thier children tha america started it?funtil the world became smaller it was easy to confine people and coral thier knowledge and only give them the info you want them to have. The world moved on, happy fucking day.as to the rest of it, one of the freedoms was freedom of relegion, that also includes freedom FROM it.I am so god damned sick of fucking true believers trying to sway me to thier side and thier feeble and weak arguments that are always based on teh bible. fuck the bible, its a god damned book, written by men. its based on legends handed downa nd ritten down and passed on and attributed to thier god. look at zuess, apollo, athena, all the other bullshit gods that were once worshipped and people thought to be real. they were written downa nd the new christian god won out. so what? it proves jack shit. This argument will never be over, no side will conciede. we had this entire thread deadend down about the existance of god and moved on to agree that cod exist and let the rest of it go. Now why, did you feel the need to bring the shit back up? to ring back the will of god?because you fucking christians just cant let the shit go, you have ot be fucking right.well fine, your wrong, there is no god, the bible is a pack of lies in a cover and written on toilet paper.fuck your god, fuck all the gods, fuck satan and what ever bullsht you care to toss in.Reread what steve wrote, Either religious people are so insecure in their beliefs that they have to be constantly reminded that they believe in God, or they're saying that if you don't agree with them, you're worthless."in your atempt to defile that statment you only added to its value.god is a crutch for those to weak to stand on thier own, its the one thing Jesse Ventura ever said that I agree with.
-
"The educators?try the writers of the books."Same folks...you ever check who writes those things? As for the rest of your post, it sounds to me like you need somewhere to vent. Didn't know this was the "venting room". Sorry...I'll excuse myself.
-
yeah yeah yeah.
Iv been here to long, not to mention dealing with fucking missionaires all the time. I see this argument every fucking day. on this site, on others, in real life. Im fucking tired of the christians especially that fucktard republican piece of shit Dubya, telling me Im worng and governing my fucking life.
care to start that war since we already opened up the god debate once more ?
Ever think noone would need to vent if people minded thier own fucking buisiness? pray to who ya like and shut the fuck up about it. Im willing ot let anyone who cares to do so, do it, so why are you mother fuckers alwasy trying to get me to do shit your way?
fId love to vent I honestly would.
Iv had more fucking missionaries arrested for tresspassing and solicitation that anyone else in the world, any that cared to I beat the dog shit out of for coming to my mother fucking home to spread thier fairy tale.
why cant you mother fuckers do what you want and leave everyone else alone?
christians were always against the witchf, atleast the witches do what they want and leave everyone that doesnt come looking for fthe help of that religion, alone.
you all coud take a lesson from them. -
In reply to: This country was founded by Christians didn't realise that Chistianity was rampant among the natives half a millenium ago... thanks for the update
-
I'm not weak minded or spirited...as a matter of fact I'm a science student...and I believe in God, so you can take that stereotype of "weak and crutch" and shove it up your ass.

"No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship." -- Thomas Jefferson"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." -- First Amendment, U.S. ConstitutionActually I've read the writings of folks such as Thomas Jefferson (he had something to do with the Constitution, no?) and Thomas Paine. You know: the Founding Fathers. Most of them were deists, not Christians. It was the dawn of the Age of Reason, as you'll recall. The Constitution's framers were concerned about the tyranny of the majority. That's why the created the co-equal (and unelected) judicial branch. That's why they made it so difficult to amend the Constitution. That's why speech (especially political speech) is protected under the Constitution. (By the way, the Constitution dodged a bullet yesterday, when the anti-flag burning amendment went down to defeated by one vote in the Senate.)Is the U.S. a Christian nation? If you define it by the majority of the population, then yes. If you define it by it's government, then no. Neither the Declaration of Independence nor the Constitution mention Jesus even once. And the operating document of the federal government, the Constitution, does not mention "God" or "a creator" at all.In 1978, when the motto was challenged, the Supreme Court said: "Its use is of a patriotic or ceremonial character and bears no true resemblance to a governmental sponsorship of religious exercise."Are you happy that the slogan dumbs down the idea of God like that, according to they Supreme Court?Suppose one day Moslems become a majority of the population. Would you have a problem with their changing the motto to "In Mohammad we trust"? Can you exercise a little empathy? Can you even conceive of why people of certain religious persuasions might have a problem with the slogan? And why would someone who's secure in his beliefs need to see that slogan plastered all over the place?(By the way, "In God we trust" came about as a religious motto in the 1860's. More information can be found here and here. "The national motto adopted by the Founders was inscribed next to the Great Seal of the United States, a decoration devised under the supervision of Franklin, Adams and Jefferson. It was Jefferson who suggested "E Pluribus Unum," and that slogan was adopted in 1782, five years before the Constitutional convention of 1787.")
