My girlfriend and I have been going out for a while now, but at the end of summer I'm shipping off for the Navy, we decided that we're gonna try to stay together, and its gonna be hard, and sometimes we both feel that we can't do it, but we still want too... just, what do you guys think we should do?

What should we do?

We don't know you or your situation. So how can we tell you what to do.
Long distance relationships are tricky, some people can make them work but you have to be totally dedicated to do it.

well, my situation is that we're very happy with each other, but we both just dread that I'm leaving. We'll still see each other, but only every now and then, and she still has another year of school left...

hey marcushow long are you going to be in the navy for?in my situation, somehow like yours, i'm serving the army soon for 2 years and i had a very serious relationship with this girl. well we were going really good and we talked about marriage and she was gonna wait for me. In the end, it didnt happen, we broke up and one of the driving factors behind our breakup is me goin to the army. left me hurtin.Im not saying its not possible, It is possible - if given enough amount of dedication and loyalty to each other. like hotpants said, long distance relationships are very very tricky. it takes alot. hope this helps.

I too am in the same boat. In a few months my girlfriend will be heading to the other side of the country for Air Corps training for a year, then after that we don't know where she will be stationed. I can't move because I have college but we will definately stay together. We just have to plan so we can see each other every chance that we can. On holidays and whenever she has time off.It will take a good bit of work and keeping in contact to maintain the strength of the relationship, but if you love each other then there is no real reason why you should break up. Many people in the special forces have girlfriends & boyfriends, husbands & wives. Its your commitment to the relationship that maintains it.
