i bought a beginner ibanez =]
-
Fuck right on!!! Ibanez is the bitch!!! They are very expensive but damn the quality is so good its worth the price!! I bought a Garnet for my practice and im going to buy the Gibson SG an Ibanez JEM7 Steve Vai sig. The fret board is so amazing. Dont listen to people who say cheap guitars are better, they are NOT! Only for practice!!But good job dude on buying Ibanez! I feel proud of ye What type is it? Acoustic Semi-acoustic Electric? Just tell me the name of it please.
-
haha sweeeet, ya man i just got a beginner ibanez, it was only 100. i got it for a hobby you know, ive always wanted to play guitar and shit...i aint getting any younger lol so i figured id just get a beginner instead of something fancy. cuz ya i saw other ibanez guitars and they were like..well alot lol. and yea i dont know any details of it since i am a beginner on guitars period lol but its an acoustic
-
An Acoustic Ibanez!? Is there such thing lol, they are probaly the best electric guitar makes ever! Second by Gibson of course. I bought my garnet for 100 bucks its my practice guitar, im saving 3 grand to buy the Ibanez JEM7 the greatest guitar to be ever made!!Since you are knew, may i suggest as an electric guitar; I say Burnswood or Garnet. Garnet for acoustic! Burnswood EG makes nice semis' too! After you get to more advance levels start upgrading your guitar, maybe even build a custom one. I made my electric guitar, it wasl ike 500 bucks, not bad but eh.What about Picks! They are very important! Ibanez has some good picks. Yamaha has some good ones. Gibson? Nope lol. Try fiding one and what ever you like and feels good play it!If you cannot choose a guitar, pick one up play a song if it felt right, its yours!About straps! Straps are important, a Fender strap is so hot! They connect to the stratocast nicely! Oh yes If your cheap and need a practifce electric, get Fender Stratocast!Keep on Rocking!
-
thats tight man but hell yea i guess i got a rare one then lol well some of my friends have told me that learning acoustic is alot harder then electric and i do plan on getting an electric later on too though, but right now i wanna learn the hard way i guess so when i do play an elec. itll be a piece of cake. and yea man about the picks ionno, it came with a few but i feel more in control when i use my fingures =]. i saw fender straps and yea i agree theyre off the chain!
-
Hell yes it is!! On Electric the Amp does all the work for you!!!! Try learning on Classical, its much much harder! I practice on acoustic or semi acoustic then transpose it to the electric. Spanish guitars are good for practice also.
-
Don't worry about an electric guitar for now. Once you can do barre chords up an down the scale, you can think about an electric. If you learn on an electric you'll have a lot of trouble going back to an acoustic.I'd suggest you look through the "easy for guitar" books and fake books at the music store. I'm trying to remember what I learned early on...Scarborough Fair, Greensleeves, and Puff the Magic Dragon, I think.Keep practicing chords, chord changes, and scales!
-
Scarborough fair and Greensleves are awsome songs but they are not for acousting they are done on classical. well the mandolin actually or the lute. Puff the magic dragon is mostly chords really good to get the fingers doing.
Dont forget to do finger warms ups and picking with and without a pick each day!!
Steve: Do you know anymore songs that are good to learn? I know those ones, House of the rising sun!! that is a perfect one to learn and Minuet in G that is good for the timing and things!
-
Scarborough fair and Greensleves...You don't need an arrangement on Renaissance instruments to play those songs. Simon and Garfunkel did fine with Scarboroug Fair on acoustic. I've played them on electric guitar. I don't think anyone here is going into the recording studio anyway.I learned finger picking early on on my steel string acoustic so I could keep the noise down and not bother my roommate late at night. It's a useful thing to know. I like to fingerpick on the electric, like Lindsey Buckingham (he is really good).Yes, House of the Rising Sun (chords) and Bach's Minuet (melody) are good beginner songs.Songs by America (A Horse with no Name, etc.) and Chicago (Color My World, etc.) are kind of romantic-sounding. I can't think of anything else off hand. Black Sabbath's Iron Man is good, but not too romantic. The good thing is that you can get the chords, and sometimes the tablature, for practically every pop song...althogh they're often not completely accurate...but some of them are excellent.
-
Tab is bad, unless its Power Tab because Tab doest not give you the rhythm of the song like how notations do.Can you recommend then any other good song? I learn much other peoples song i mostly composed i tried learning some Zeppelin but the picking is out my way there are some good arpeggiations in Preludes 1,3,5,9!

I was at the San Diego Fair the other week and a guy was playing the Chapman Stick. You guys ever seen one? It looked and sounded great. http://www.stick.com/method/greg_howard1.wmvhttp://www.stick.com/method/greg_howard2.wmv
-
Wow! It did sound great, but the instrument is not for me lol, i'll stick with the Ibanez! Still pretty awsome thing.

Tab is not sheet music. It's missing a lot of stuff. If you're learning classical music, you should use sheet music. If you're learning pop music, you should do it by ear and figure out the song. If you're in a hurry or you just can't figure it out, tab is a useful reference. My knowledge of classical is weak, although I now have a Cordoba FCWE flamenco guitar.Cat Stevens has some good, easy to play songs, like Father and Son.Others:Charlie and the MTA (folk)Alexandre Geindre - Lonesome Magic Vice Harvest (used in the Geico dog commerical last year)Butthole Surfers - The Wooden SongChris Isaac - Wicked Game (very romantic; nice arpeggios)Kinks - I'm not like Everybody Else (used in the IBM commercials)Mason Williams - Classical Gas (the acoustic-only version he recorded is great...but it's not a real easy song)Various Neil Young SongsVarious Crosby Stills, Nash (and sometimes Young) songsChumbawumba - TubthumpingColdplay - ClocksDandy Warhols - GodlessHendrix - All Along the WatchtowerDepeche Mode - Shake the DiseaseDoors - Roadhouse BluesEric Clapton - Layla (a bit complicated)Fountains Of Wayne - Stacy's MomIggy Pop - The Passenger (used in some car commercial and some move and lots of other places)Iron Butterfly - Inna-Gadda-Da-VidaJoan Baez - Diamonds And Rust (also recorded by Judas Priest)John Denver - Take Me Home Country RoadsKaiser Chiefs - I Predict a RiotMadonna - Love ProfusionMark Knopfler - What It IsMidnight Oil - Sleep (I haven't figured out this one yet)Moody Blues - The Story in Your EyesMoody Blues - QuestionMotorhead - Enter Sandman (this is a classic)Offspring (various things -- I love this group)Paul Simon - DuncanPeter, Paul & Mary - All My Trials / 500 Miles / Puff the Magic DragonPink Floyd - One of These Days / See Emily Play / Wish You Were HerePolice - Message In A BottleRamones songs are usually pretty easyREM - Texarkana / It's the end of the WorldRick James - SuperfreakSean Paul - We Be Burnin'Shocking Blue - VenusSimon and Garfunkel - A Hazy Shade of Winter / The BoxerStabbing Westward - Save YourselfStaggered Crossing - Further AgainStaind - OutsideStray Cats - Stray Cat Strut (Bm A G Gb)Ten Years After - I'd Love To Change The WorldTonic - If You Could Only See (there's also an acoustic version)Traffic - Low Spark of High-heeled BoysVan Morrison - MoondanceVentures - Apache '65 / Diamond Head / Pipeline / Telstar / Hawaii Five-O themeWho - Behind Blue Eyes (good one!) / Pinball Wizard / I Can't Explain / I'm FreeCredence Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop the RainELO - Fire On High (Bm A G G A Bm)All kinds of old time blues music, like John Lee Hooker. Those are mostly easy to play, although some are complicated but interesting (you can learn them bit by bit). Some have interesting strumming patterns.

I've never seen a Chapman Stick played. Damn, that guy's good.
-
If your jsut learning a good one to add to your list is Tom Dooley.
Theres alot you can do with that song in learning.
play the few chords that make up the entire song, when thats down pat you can add the hammer, shit like that. It was the first song my son learned when he started playingff, a great song to learn for beginners. -
You can read sheet music much faster than tab, its called sight reading, if your a musician atleast and can read the notes lol.Are those songs you listed, are they like picking, plucking strumming or a combo?
-
I forgot: Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
> You can read sheet music much faster than tab, its called sight reading, if your a musician atleast and can read the notes lol.
That's fine if you're playing classical music. You're not likely to find sheet music for pop tunes that is arranged in a way that sounds anything like what's recorded. You usually fine solo piano or "easy for guitar" arrangements. You're also not going to find many guitarists who can sight read sheet music, unless they've had serious classical guitar training.
Forget about sheet music for pop stuff. You need to pick it up by ear. If you sit in with other musicians, you'd better be able to figure out the key, chord progression, tempo, and rhythm pretty quickly. You need to listen to recorded music and play along, and you need to do a lot of it.
> Are those songs you listed, are they like picking, plucking strumming or a combo?
They're all different things. I mean, ELO, Butthole Surfers, Mason Williams, and Jimi Hendrix are on that list. It just happens to be a random selection of songs, most of which use fairly simple chords, that are (in my opinion) worth listening to and fooling around with.
As I said, you should figure them out on your own. If you need some help, find the chords for the song on line. If you need more help figuring out a lick, then check the tab (although lots of them have errors).
