Ritchie Valens started on a guitar that was used, and an amp that was found in the garbage.besides all of this I stand behind every shitty rotten, insulting thing I ever stated about you and have mcu to add to it. However I have shit to do so it will have to wait for another thread later tonight or the near future to spew them all forth and sick them up on the web site in an attmpt to warn anyone who reads the bullshit you type, think, say, and feel, and maybe they can avoid wasting thier time on what ever bullshit you decide to post. EDIT:You claim to have friends, I belive that you are the one that they allow to stick around because of the bullshit you have falling out of your mouth. Its alwasy good to have someone around to make fun of and pick on. We always let an idiot hang with us in high school just ot make certain we had some entertainment. Noone ever liked him, we jsut allowed him to tag along, Im betting thats what you are in your group of buddies. In ours his name was Will, he always had some fucking story to top anyone elsees and considered himself the be all end all of knowledge on any given subject. Im suprised he stuck around so long, between us laughing at him, and all the punches he took I figured he would be gone the first day but he stuck around for 2 years.I guess its because with all the abuse, we treated him better then anyone else in that school. after we graduated I wonder who he clung to.

I see you dont remember the controvery of copyright with Valens and Satriani!

A good instrument in the hand of an untalented musician still makes crappy sounds. In any case, I'm not sure what the big deal is about Ibanez guitars is, anyway (maybe they make some nice custom instruments). They're mass-produced, to hang on the wall of Guitar Center. Actually, I say a cool looking one at Guitar Center a few years ago, but it didn't sound that good.In any case, I have a collection of guitars and basses. The junkiest one is an American Fender Jazz bass, which is not too junky. You might have gotten a clue if you'd noted the flamenco guitar I mentioned, above.OK, why am I having a pissing contest with a clueless little boy? We're done.

Ibanez is the greates(not literally) They make the best amps picks and of course guitars! Its endoursed by the greatest guitarists, Kirk Hammet still adversises for them!
Gibson is good too, Angus Young liked it alot so he custom made the Gibson SG Angus Young, while Steve Vai made it for Ibanez.

Stop the hero worship crap. Do those guys play the mass-produced guitar that you play, or do they play something that comes out of their custom shop?
Believe me, the Ibanez guitars you get at Guitar Center are no big deal. Some people think there's nothing better than an American Strat. Everybody has an opinion, and people play all different things in the studio and on stage (although they play a lot more Strats than Ibanezes).
Carlos Santana plays Paul Reed Smith guitars. Maybe you should tell Santana what to do.
You need to expand your hero base beyond the well-known pop/metal players. Are you even familiar with Hendrix? Santana? Pat Metheney? Wes Montgomery?

Stop mentioning Hendrix! Who has not heard of him! Guess what he plays? Gibson and Ibanez!Jimmy Page is still better, atleast his riff are riffs you can remember in your head. Why the hell do you keep naming all these people? If they were actually good guitarists ,they would have made the Guitar Hall of Fame!

Stop mentioning Hendrix! Who has not heard of him! Guess what he plays? Gibson and Ibanez!I'm sorry that I'm the one who has to tell you, but Jimi Hendrix has been dead for a while. When he was alive, though, he played a standard Strat, strung in reverse, through Marshall amps.> Jimmy Page is still better, atleast his riff are riffs you can remember in your head.Jimmy Page is great, but he's not as good, or as pioneering, and Hendrix.> Why the hell do you keep naming all these people? If they were actually good guitarists ,they would have made the Guitar Hall of Fame! Now you've proven that you are actually a troll, and nothing that you say or have said should be believed. Even a sixth grader wouldn't say anything that stupid. Poof! You no longer rate a reply.

In reply to:If you're playing Dave Brubeck, then probably not.Our jazz band played Brubeck's "Blue Rondo a La Turk" and it's all by sheet music. Of course, we listen to multiple different recordings of it as we do with all our music, but a lot of jazz can be played right from sheet music. The exception is mainly with solos. You can't play an awesome solo from the page, it just doesn't happen. Now I'm not going to comment on rock because I don't have enough experience playing much either by ear or sheet music to tell you about either. I find that sheet music is the best way to play stuff though. To really get the same feel as the original player you need to listen to it and hear what they do with it, but I can't imagine playing everything by ear. Maybe I just need to train myself to do more playing by ear.

Thank you! Finally another talented musician here! What do you play on Jazz band? I do the guitar and sometimes bass. We played a Chuck Berry song once and alot others, I think we actually did B.B King for the christmas peformance!

Hey, I'm not saying Steve's not talented. A lot of awesome musicians don't read sheet music. Myself, I find reading sheet music invaluable though.I may not play jazz for awhile as I just graduated, but I played trombone in the school jazz band, generally bass trombone parts. I played in our wind ensemble, and I also play piano and a little guitar on my own. Although I have to admit I suck at guitar because I haven't practiced much for awhile. This year end performance we played Blue Rondo, Basie Straight Ahead, and a vocal chart - My Funny Valentine.

wow....id like to get back to the real topic at hand (since im the one who started it) and ask if theres anymore easy romantic songs i can learn to play -thanks to everyone for their help!
-
Alot of them had to take lessons after a while, ex Jimmy Page took lessons so did Van Halen, Satriani taugh Kirk Hamment and Steve Vai!Keep practicing hopefully you will get better! I did guitar for the jazz band but mostly i did piano, Jazz guitar was kinda hard to play since so many were playing and the sheet music was going all wavey and crazy!

Hendrix had an Epiphone FT79 that he used a lot for composing, at home, etc. He was also known to perform with a Gibson Flying V. But the great, great majority of the time, he preformed with a strat on stage. You'd have to conclude that, at the end of it all, he preferred using the strat on stage, wouldn't you? There's no evidence that he ever touched an Ibanez? (And what is the BFD about an Ibanez guitar? If it works for you, that's great. But a stock Ibanez is nothing very special.)Lots of people have big guitar collections. It doesn't mean that they play them all. Some people don't play at all, but collect them because they look cool, and are tradable. I own several guitars and basses because I think they're cool (in fact, I had a luthier make an electric bass to my specifications. I chose the woods, inlays, pickups, hardware, etc.So what does it all mean? If you want to be a musician, you need to focus on playing, rather than on the instrument.I know that you've been in a jazz band in school and have played on the street, and because of that you know it all. I agree that the ability to read sheet music is a good skill, and will serve you well if you want to study music further. But join a rock band and let me know how much sheet music you see. Play with a band that already has a repetoire and see how much patience they have if you can't quickly pick up a tune by ear.
