I emphasize with your zeal Godzilla and I'd encourage you to go through with this. I come from an army family, I know alot of army guys and they are for the most part very well adjusted who came out of the army with the neccesary skills to begin a second career. But have you thought about your family? I dont mena your parents or anything, I mean the family you may wnat to start in the future. The army is quite hard to raise a family in. I lived on damned army base as a kid, it was rubbish! And we had to move around hell loads. Where the Royal Air Born Artillery go, I follow! Thats how it was for years. Now my dad is TGI which means he stays in once place (though I dont live with him anymore anyway). If you were an officer, however, I imagine the situation would be better, because you'd be paid more, you'd be less likely to need to live on camp buy the time you start a family. But dude, good luck, theres plenty of plus sides to the army. You learn alot of skills, you get to travel around the world (not just for war), you get to do your country a service, and you can try that whole man-in-uniform thing while your on leave. Oh yeah and you get a big ass pension, UK soldiers do anyway.

You learn alot of skillsYou have the opportunity to learn useful or useless real-world skills. Learning how to load artillery shells probably won't get you very far in the civilian world, but learning how to repair electronics, for instance, will.

If its what ya wanna do gzilla than u shud do it, but have you heard all the caualty reports in Iraq (and Afghanistan i the US armies there at da mo as well) at the moment?I kinda still want to join the RAF in england, but not because of patriotism, because i've always wanted to fly aircraft. simple. that might be changing at the moment as im picking mainly scientific and mathematical subjects for college, (which are good for pilots to have e.g physics apparantly)

I say if you want to do go for it. I think the way your freind is talking shit about it is his way of saying he will miss you if you leave. Guys are funny about feelings.
