so i got a letter today from my GYN - my pap came back adnormal - mild dysplasia(which are pre-cancerous cells). i also have HPV (which caused the dysplasia) and she said theres not a way to tell how long i've had it and that it comes and goes which is why it didn't show on my feb pap (had to have a pap in june b/c of medicaid)has anyone had this? i've been doing research and it looks like i got 'lucky' in the strain b/c its not gential warts but still...i have an apt for a biopsy in august
Actually, you would be more "lucky" to have gotten the strain that causes genital warts. The strain that causes genital warts, usually, does not cause cervical cancer. Other strains do. My wife and I went through this many years ago. What will probably happen, is that you will go back to the gyno and he/she will perform cryosurgery, where the affected area is frozen, thereby killing the virus and affected cells. Not a difficult procedure, but you might have abdominal aches and light bleeding in the days afterwards.
maybe lucky is the wrong word. from what i've read - and i've done a LOT of it today - it can cause cancer but not all strains do and if they catch it earily then you never have it spread. usually clears up on its own and goes away. its still a scarey thought tho
