Don't drink at all

yeh dont drink to avoid hangovers is the fail-safe way :P
but never drink on empty stomach and for every drink of alcohol have a drink of water... not sure how practical that is tho...
so at the end of the night make sure you have many drinks of water and stay up for a while AFTER drining before going to bed -
There are at least three different effects that can cause a hangover:1. Lack of water. Alcohol is a diuretic and it makes you urinate more and lose water from your system and get dehydrated. When you get home, drink seven glasses of water (if you can). You'll have to get up during the night - replace what you urinate with more water.2. Lack of B group vitamins. These are water-soluble vitamins. Alcoholic drinks don't usually contain much, and you tend to lose a lot because of the diuretic effect. The solution is high-dose vitamin B tablets, or foods very high in the B group vitamins.3. Fusel oil. This is the higher alcohols formed in small amounts during fermentation. They are toxic. You can avoid them by sticking to spirits, especially vodka.A different matter are the things that slow down absorption of alcohol. An empty stomach will mean you absorb alcohol quickly, so it affects you straight away. A full stomach slows things down, especially fats. Full-cream milk is a traditional one, or a glass of olive oil (very fattening). Thses slow down the absorption of alcohol so you can drink more and apparently get less drunk - but you're only putting off the effect until later, not stopping it.
