hi,i find when im exercising, even though i can physichally feel my self capable of doing more repetitions of certain exercises ( especially dumb bell shrugs and squats, and crunches ) i get drained mentally, bored almost. im focusing on breathing and i lose count of how many reps im on and i get flustered, and i dont get to a point where i am physichally exhausted, instead its mental exhaustion. how do i keep myself driven to complete a set? i can do a seemingly infinite amount of dumb bell shrugs, maybe im not doin em right, and i dont get great results. i think its cuz im either doin em wrong or im just not working til my muscles are worked out.

Listen up all - judging by HelmsmaN's pic I'd take his bloody advice! It seems to be working for him!

i dont know how to do any of those besides shrugs...i checked that http://www.e-weightloss-fitness.com/resources.shtml website and it does give info on shoulders presses but that requires a machine and i only have dumb bells..
btw, 4 sets 10 reps per exercise, for every workout session? wow

uh, how?

is that just a chair hes sitting on, or some kinda special machine?
also, when im doing this kind of exercise i find it hard to keep my balance
-
That's just a chair. Part of the work-out is to keep your balance, it's a better work-out because you use more muscles to keep the balance. Eventually it will be easier to get balance and you can go up in weights.

The way to make the exercise more diffcult (but a much better exercise overall) is to sit on an exercise ball while doing it. You need to use your core to stabilize your body while lifting the weights straight upwards.
You need to focus on your balance. Contract those muscle and feel your posture, your breathing, the motion of the exercise, and go slowly so as to correct anything that feels wrong. You need to use your core to keep you steady. Having a strong back/lats for shoulder exercises also helps, and you can focus on keeping your balance using all those muscles. Try it with light weights first, then move to something heavier. It's not worth doing if you can't do it properly, especially with exercises involving such areas as the shoulders which are VERY prone to injury from over straining.

okay, i recently took a two week vacation to florida where i had no access to exercise equiptment, so i just did pushups when i could...this would reduce my muscle mass right? now that im back i started doing 3 sets of my routine instead of the usual two and im taking protein shakes...im also gunna start with those shoulder sets helmsman recommended. how many sets is too many though? i wanna increase my bicep size, forearm size and tricep size mainly....but i dunno, i cant do any more reps with any kind of exercise, if i increase the weight its too much to do more than like, 4 reps with, i cant figure out any more exercises to do...i dunno if im making any progress. one thing is, when i bend my forearm into my upper arm i feel my forearm muscle pushing against my lower bicep which ive never felt before, moreso in my right arm...sorry im kind of ranting here....how can i start to make real progress? i mean im only 15, nobody my age is that huge, and im more concerned with gaining brute strength than to be well toned.any tips are much appreciated. thanks-max
