Prove to me that you exist. I think you are a Microsoft bot. But do I exis.... * poof! *

If this board didn't exist

I travel at the speed of caffeine

In reply to: that bum who sits at the corner of King and Young Streets by city hall... the guy with the dreadlocks ahh that guy is sooo scary! The one who's pants are so ripped at the bottom you can see his legs perfectly and the dreads past his ass? Eww.. you know his parents are rich.. he just doesnt want hand outs.
-
hahaha!!! I figured you'd know of him. If my memory serves me, his name is Micheal. He's just a poor soul that went off his meds years ago.Unfortunately, he has occasional fits of violence but I think it's pretty rare.This "K-Town Vignette" comes to you coutesy of Pink and Mr U

Either color, the velocity is always the same...only the direction changes, Steve. That's also known as acceleration. Refractory index has to do with how much it will bend (change direction)...not velocity. You need to get serious or leave the subject alone. I just got tired of talking to you earlier is all.
-
V=D/T Thats speed right?
A=T/V?
-
Purple, Purple, Purple...when on object is in orbit it is undergoing a constant acceleration that is constantly changing the direction of travel...if it didn't, it would fly off into the night. But the velocity (speed) that the object is traveling while in orbit remains the same. Change in direction (acceleration)...but no change in velocity. This happens whenever light is subjected to a strong gravitational source (such as a star or a black-hole).The equations you posted only hold when the situation is linear (when velocity and acceleration never change direction.)
-
Bah, I knew i should've paid attention in Physics Whats the one with direction? >A
-
read the information posted alreadythe refraction is caused by the change in speed.maybe we need to slow down a bit this one even has a little game Also... in my world... Dispersion: The temporal spreading of a light signal in an optical waveguide caused by light signals traveling at different speeds through a fiber either due to modal or chromatic effects. btw... "chomatic" refers to colour
-
It depends what you're solving for, and I couldn't get it to post correctly in here anyway without making a picture and posting it. (Too many "squares" and "sqaure roots")
-
I understand. I was reading something about how Gamma Rays are breaking the "E=MC^2" theory.What are the vectors then? don't they show movement?
-
OK...I was right about what I said in a vacuum...and the refraction stuff. But light does change speed going through stuff as well. I've been stuck in outer-space too long it seems...
-
it's ok, it happens
-
> OK...I was right about what I said in a vacuum...and the refraction stuff. But light does change speed going through stuff as well.
Holy crap, why didn't you just look at all the references I put up, most from nice universities?
To your earlier point, what does it mean to say that that something "slows down" if its directon vector changes? "Slow down" is a scalar concept. I'll cut you some slack and assume you were confused by the idea of change in phase velocity, and assuming that speed remains constant.
The experiments that Lene Hau (and her successors) did to slow down the speed of light wouldn't have been very intresting if all she did was change the dirction of the light. Mirrors were discovered a long time ago.

Oh, really? You're welcome.

Oh, don't even mention String Theory here. Its bad enough having to deal with 4 dimensions, but 26!?! No thank you!!
-
According to the PBS main site, theat program is supposed to be on now, but on the local station, they're having the "Deadly Ascent" episode. Some religious folks who have a problem with String Theory must have had it bumped.
-
I thought religious mad-hatters would love it, its just like religion. Promises something different but current attempts at string theory says nothing different than what other theories have predicted. Atleast not in a way that can be proven true or false.
-
Brane theory is a more recent refinement of string theory. Maybe they'd be less offended by vibrating branes than strings, which might have some sexual angle.
-
Haha, "p-branes". Yup, they'll love it!
