I just got a call a few hours ago inviting me to an interview tomorrow. This is a very very big deal to me. The position seems to be just data entry (I think I'll be converting a paper database onto computers), but the important part is that it's in the Crown Law Office. CLO is responsible for giving legal advice to the government. So needless to say this is a pretty important place to work, and the pay is good too. What I'm after is some interview tips! Although this is just a part time job I think the process will still be pretty formal. So can you help me edit oh yea... at the moment I'm reading their website, trying to get a good grasp of exactly what they do.

Thanks, but too late now I just got home from it.
I think it went pretty well. They are going to check my references and be back to me by the end of the week.

it's a good sign when they go so far as to check refs

The msot important things to do is to not be a fucking moron.you may think that fthe shit i about to say is bullshit and common sense but Iv seen it, more then once so Ill put it here just incase someone thinks its OK to do.Dress up, you dont need suit and tie to apply for a construction job, but dress appropriate to tfhe work, and maybe a bit beyond that, show some god damned respect to the person your being interviewed by. dont show up wearing shorts and a tee shirt and flip flops.Turn the damned cell phone off, in an interview the most important thing is the interview, shut the bastard off so it doesnt interupt. anyone calling can leave a message and wait to be called back.be curtious, dont use slang and bullshit talk, pay attention and use atleast somewhat proper english and grammar. (dont talk like I type ) be sure to look them in the eyes when answering and asking questions, dont stare them down but dont look around the room when your talking or listening.those few tips above, I know youll read them and go fuckin asshole, who would do any of that ?many many people have done it, start fucking around on google, i recall some time ago there was a list compiled of horrible interviews told from the interviewers POV, many people have been total morons and shown up looking like they had someplace better to be, and many more have come off as a retarded squirelly monkey by what they did once they got there.

I really hope I get this job. It will be excellent on my CV and I'll get a good insight into a very important government departement. Oh yea, the money's not bad too!

And, this is for other people, you will probably be asked the "Why do you want to work here?" question. Do not be a smartass and say "To earn money." You can earn money anywhere; they want to know why you CHOSE to work there to earn money. Like if you apply to a clothing store... "I want to work here because it gives me the chance to actually work with people and to assist them with their clothing needs." Or whatever. You get the point.

Yep they asked me that exact question. I was prepared for it so I went on about how it is something I'm interested in careerwise and interestwise etc etc.

I've been conducting several practical exams for technical positions where I work. We're trying to hire new "Technology Specialists level 3".Here's the 2 things that are very important in our hiring process. Technical skills and personality. Basically, my job is to make sure they have the technical skills required for the position. My boss's job is to assess their personality. Then we get together after we both get done almost interrogating them and discuss it.My advice is STUDY THE JOB DESCRIPTION. Think about what the employer wants and what they might be looking for.I've used this line before and I always got surprised reactions. When an interviewer asks me about pay or salary, I say "Money is not my objective" and then I move on to why I want to work for them. That seems to get a really good reaction every time. haha.
