I never said that you didn't, just that I found it rude to have someone post that they are not going to respond because it's a waste of their time. That seems rude to me.We're not talking about whether I believe in God or not. We're talking about why someone wouldn't believe in God (mainly for the original poster's sake). I never was trying to come off as rude, either. But you assumed I was attacking your faith, instead of asking people to question their faith. Questioning one's beliefs brings one closer to truth, which may or may not be what they originally believed. I used to be an Atheist, but when I questioned the idea of Atheism, I realized that a higher being is completely possible, just as the lack of one is completely possible. The questioning built me as a person, and everyone should question, to an extent depending on the topic, what they have been told. There is a point in debating, not arguing because that is too emotional and gets no one anywhere. I should have chosen my word choice more carefully. The point is to bring anyone who reads the topic closer to their own personal truth. This is why one shouldn't try debating when they are emotional, especially when it's text, which will still be there when they are no longer emotional. This isn't meant to be rude, just a suggestion so that someone debating doesn't get too frustrated over the topic. Also, there are more than two sides to whether or not God exists.I'm not trying to say that God doesn't exist, merely that there are reasons why people are unable to believe in the God presented by the Bible. I hope I've been able to convey why I think this type of debate can be a good thing, as long as those participating don't get too emotional, as it can strengthen their faith or take them closer to a different truth. And now I'm hungry, Virtual_Star :-(And do you know any sites with an excepted version of the bible so that I can have the chance to read those examples you gave me, Ineligible?

It's extremely hard for me to believe in a God.
-
oh jeez, guys can be so clueless let me just make this a little more clear. I am PHYSICALLY and practically emotionally not in the mood to get into a debate with you ok? but when I am restored I will gladly discuss this with you.
-
I understood exactly what you were saying. But my point did not only pertain to that time of month, but any time of the day when someone is overly-emotional.

Quote:What makes you think god is a "he"? one thought would be not because the bible says "the father" more so that fathers tend to be the ones who let their children loose to find their own way whereas mothers want to be more hands on,more involved in their childrens lives and more likely to dread the day their children fly the coop or maybe im just kooky...

oh boy you're wife is in for a rough time.
-
I'm taking this class called "women and religion" and there is actually a christian religion known as Christian Science that refers to god as being either male or female. They start the "Our father" with something like "Our father-mother God...". Thought that might interest you....

Cider, http://www.biblegateway.com has a number of different translations available, and you can just type in the passage you want.A.W., I don't see being tender-hearted as a fault. A certain amount of mental toughness is useful, but I'm sure you have that. People who try to evangelise by projecting the attitude "nothing you say can affect my opinion" don't give a good impression to the people they are talking to.
-
We're talking about debating here, where being over-emotional is a bad trait to have. We're not talking about living with a spouse (or arguing, for that matter, which I think you may be referring to).And thanks Ineligible.

You argue against the existence of god, but never read the bible?I think that right now you should go get a copy and read it from cover to cover one time through.Im an atheist myself, have been since I was a little kid, but I did read the bible, reading ti confirmed my thoughts about calling bullshit instead of proving to me that its the word of god written by man.IF your going to go arguing with people over if god does or does not exist, you really need to have some information an understand where the person your arguing with is coming from, do your research, read the bible.

agreed =/Read the Quran, that way you kinda get all three books in there :P

You don't know my beliefs. I was raised catholic, but I am certainly not a 'good' catholic. I struggle with my beliefs quite a bit. I'm not sure if there is a God or not, but I lean more towards there being one. But my first post has nothing to do with my beliefs.Your educational background doesn't impress me. You don't know any more than any other scientific paper written. And (someone correct me if I am wrong) scientists still do not know 'for sure' how AIDS came about. I love how you gloss over the fact you included starvation and war in your post. I know for sure there is no god whispering in my ear telling me to commit murder or to go to war. I have the ability to choose. I think your argument about AIDS/war/starvation is very weak. That's why I replied to you in the first place. On the other hand I think the 'good' things come from god arguement is weak also.I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say. You blame God for AIDS and war, yet you say there is no God. You are totally contradicting. Will you be happy if one day scientists say "God created AIDS"?

I'm saying if there is a god, that's fucked up of him to let his people suffer, if he can't stop the suffering, he's not much of a god to believe in, then is he?The point was that, if you believe in a god, you must believe he created all the lovely little viruses we have. That, and why do god-people think he would give a shit about the little things? "Oh please god, let me get this loan" or "Oh please god, get me an A on this test" He would have 6.5 billion peoples insignificant problems, I mean, he's having a hard enough time with starvation. And I have to use the hypothetical god to make an argument, because the whole main belief in one is silly before you even take into account the book about him.

The best one is Evander Holyfield thanking god for letting him and helping him to beat the dog shit out of his opponent.I wouldnt not be world champion if not for god helping me in the ring to beat this fucker senseless!
-
thank god for you.don't ya just love when people pray for a sick realtive? If he pulls through, they thank god for the miracle. If he dies though, they don. say "that god bastard just ignored my prayrs and killd my daddy anyway"oh, and if you don't pray, is god sitting there on the kill swich saying "they'd better pray soon... going once, going twice, GONE"?
-
Again, I'm not arguing the existence of God but giving reasons why someone would not be too quick to believe in Him.
-
Wow, a big fat religious "argument" and it had nothing to do with me. How strange....
-
honestly honey, I was thinking of you the whole time!
-
My first day back, what can I say, I can't resist a circular argument that no one wins... It's like talk to my fella.
-
More important bobbarino, your back, you got time to start more arguments and pull more shit, Im sure you can make up for this one instance that you were left out.

Perhaps a reminder that none of us are so important to the cyclical movements of the life that continues beyond us and that what we offer is our own reward. Not at you bobo, just a random thought that strayed across my fucked up head.I'm very glad to see you back, bobo. I hope you stick around.
