i shave my arms. my mom gets pissed and says its gross and i have to stop. but since i started i cant (its like shaving your legs, once you start, you cant stop!) i dont understand why she thinks it's so weird. Athlets do it if they swimm (it can take up to 2 seconds off their time) so its not THAT un-natural.my question is i guess, does anyone else shave their arms?is it gross or un-natural?andhow can i make my mom calm down and undestand its normal to me, and i CANT stop without stubble on my arms for the rest of my life.THANKS!!!!!!!!

Shaving and my arms
-
(what does this have to with foreskin and/or circumcision?)maybe start with finding out why she thinks its gross.
-
Um, you can stop, if you want. If you don't want people to notice or feel the bristles on your arms, then stop shaving in the winter, when you wear long sleeves. The hairs will feel softer over time.
-
yeah.
-
Totally smooth arms sound quite cool to me, but I hadnt really thought of it before. Certainly doesnt gross me out but I can imagine it being pain if you forget to do it sometimes and end up with a stubble. Tell your mum there your arms and its none of her business what you do to them.
-
man..if your mom freaks out that much over shaving your arms...i can just imagine you telling her about a bikini wax or somthing just tell her that you can be doing worse things than shaving your arms. maybe that will shut her up :S
-
I shave my arms. My mom doesn't care I don't think... she doesn't seem to care what I do with my body just as long as she doesn't have to hear about it. I love smooth arms. I have other friends that do it too. I don't know what to say... it's your decision what you do with your arms, not your moms. Just as long as it isn't illegal or painful.
-
I don't get shaving your arms do you have really thick hair or somethin because I have no hair on my arms at all
-
my hair wasnt thick or anything and there wasnt THAT much hair, but i have dark brown hair and it showed. All of my friends shave their arms and i hated being the only one without shaven arms.
-
Nope. I actually have blonde hair all over my body except pubic hair. Just I like the feeling of smooth arms, even if you can't see the hair that is normally on my arms. It's not how it looks for me, it's how it feels.

I'm a swimmer and I don't shave... you say it like we all do. And 2 seconds off my time, I wish. It makes a difference down at the hundredth of a second level. In extreme cases, shaving everything might bump you down that .1 of a second that in a 50m freestyle at the national or international level could be the difference between winning and losing. Now back to your point, it's not gross or unnatural. It's certainly a hassle, I'd never bother, and I don't exactly see a little arm hair as a bad thing in any way. Most importantly it's up to you. Your mom is over reacting. Tell her that you like having hair free arms and you're not harming yourself at all by doing that, as opposed to the much more serious things you could be doing.Oh, btw, you won't have stubble forever, it will grow out normally again, just give it a few weeks and it won't be a problem.

with th ewhole seconds thing...my best friend is a swimmer and she's teh one that got me into shaving my arms, and she was like "ohh yea, mycoach says it takes seconds off ur time, and the day after i did it i was 2 seconds under, so it prob does that for most ppl"im not a swimmer (love to swimm for fun) but didnt mean to offend anyone
-
Don't worry, no offense taken. I'm just saying that your figure seems to be way off from the actual drag caused by the tiny little arm hairs. A much bigger thing is how much hair a person has on their head and if they're wearing a swim cap if they have it tucked in properly so hair isn't trailing behind. This weekend is regionals and today I just qualified for the 400m freestyle in provincials I only do summer club though so I'm not ultra competitive (as opposed to some winter swim clubs which go most of the year and are where national and international level swimmers come from), but out of curiosity do you know what kind of competitive level your friend is swimming at?
-
No idea at all. she's on the town swim team and I know they just won a competition, but we really dont talk about swimming, hahah.
-
i also shave my arms, my mum was like "OMG U DONT.. DO YOU" and this was like last year.. funny enough yesterday in the car my gran was like "JESSY.. Noo.. lol" and we had a laugh, dont stress, u can let them go for about a week without shaving and no one will notice.. they grow like 1mm.. but im on the other side of the world.. so ur not alone  and with ur mum, just say to her what i say "ya gotta shave ya legs.. might as well do ya arms while ur at it".. lol

Shaving arms is totally stupid in my book. I'd much rather stroke someone's arm with fuzz on it than stubble. Once you shave something, you will always have stubble unless you let it grow out completely.
-
I don't see the attraction to shaving ones arms. They are sposta have hair on them...Kinda weird not to.
My sister used hair remover cream on hers for a while...she gave up because its such a anoying thing to maintain if no one gives a crapola about hairy arms in the first place. -
Well, I have to say here, from a man's perspective, it really doesn't make any difference to how we'll feel about you ... one of my bessie female friends has lots of arm hair... more than me (not that I have much for a man though) but, it didn't stop her hubby from wanting to marry her it's really up to you, I don't think it's weird, but, in the same token, I don't really see much of a point to it, unless you are looking to cut 2 seconds off your swimming time heh hehDan
-
HAHAHAHA shaving ur arms takes 2 secs off ur time? i'm a swimmer and shaving is more of a confidance booster than something that decreases ur time..... maybe shaving ur whole body takes off like 1 sec off a 500m free or something long distance.......oh and to answer ur question........ find out wut ur mom thinks is gross about it.

Maybe you should tell your mother there are worse things you could be doing with your arms, like sticking heroin needles in them. If you ever do decide to stop shaving them just let the hair grow out a bit then get them waxed. The hair that grows back will be soft new hair starting over again, totally unlike stubble.
