Well, you could always jump out of the plane.

Losing faith
-
Yeah I know how you feel. The last few months this situation has been creeping up on me. Ironically I know quite a few people who were once pretty religious, that are now changing their minds. I don't doubt that Jesus existed, I doubt the existence of God. I basically just came to the conclusion that if God exists then great. If not, then oh well it's not the end of the world. However if I do find myself going through a stressful time then i'll still pray and stuff, cause it's the least I can do and it's temporary comfort.
-
what makes you say that? if you're going to believe in part of something you cant be sure exists, how can you rule out that he couldnt perform miracles?
-
Believing that someone once existed is perfectly reasonable, believing that he could perform miracles is completely different. As far as we know, if Jesus existed he could have gone around doing cheap magic tricks that people exagerated in stories. He may have been slightly out of his head, 40 days without food or water will do that to some people.
-
"After you discover you believe in God, you have to find a religion that feels right." Do you have to sign up with a corporation to speak to your creator?
-
the idea of god or angels or any of that shit is a very backwords idea to me I never really understood how some people actually believe in that shit, what are we fucking stupid? What about santa claus? Or the easter bunny?
-
Yeah Punisher...that's right...if you can't see it/hear it/etc for yourself, it just doesn't exist. Makes your world real comfy and cozy when you control whether or not something gets to be real or not...and if you can't control it, it just doesn't exist. Just keep telling yourself that. Then try to explain how we all got here. Warning: Trying to use Darwin would be a mistake.
Even if you don't believe what the Bible says, there really isn't any other answer except that somebody put us here. The question would then be, who?
-
I never said that.I cant see your brain from here but Im pretty sure it exis... oh no you're rightHonestly, Im not going to argue with you.And regarding the beginning of life, I dont know how it happened nor do I give a shit but it seems ridiculous to assume it was God because there is literally an infinite amount of possibilities, and what, you're going to assume it was an invisible man because a book told you so?There is more evidence to support evolution than the invisible man theory. And don't say "well prove it was evolution then". I cant prove shit, regarding anything, no one can. I can't prove to you 2+2=4, but you believe me?
-
I agree Thor. Scepticism is intellectual cowardice, thusly I am open minded towards the existance of God, Jesus, and the bibles word being that of god, at least in part, aswell as other possibilities. Whats more the arguement that you cnat see it their for it doens texist is weak. I have never seen Australia, but I have faith that it exists.
As it stands however I am no christian. That could change, afetrall I am anti-sceptical by default.
-
Its not a matter of seeing it. its more of any clues of existence. i cannot see electrons. however, i believe in their existence because there is tangible evidence that they exist.
And to say "oh well someone had to have made this earth so it must be god" is just stupid. You dont know it was god. It could have been a 3 mile tall giant that came, took a shit, and then left. The shit then formed the earth
And besides, who created God then? "He was always there"
Then why not the same for the earth? Thats one new theory thats gaining acceptance. People think that there has to be a beginning to everything. But that doesnt work when you think of it. Its the old chicken or the egg question.
I guess what im trying to say is that how do we know that the earth had to have a beginning?
That and that I really dont give a shit. Im still going to wake up go to school come home beat off eat dinner take a shit and go to bed. And then die.
Again, dont give a shit. -
I have never seen an Aztec. Does it mean they don't exist?
-
I dont deny those questions exist. But just because those questions exist doenst mean the other questions should be abandoned. I didnt say there must be a god, I said I was open minded to its existance. I dont think you understood my post. My point was not to be sceptical. I am un-scpetical about God, I am un-sceptical about the 3 mile tall giant. Your attitude makes it seem that you are disregarding certain possibilites out of hand simply because it poses large numbers of questions. This is unhealthy scepticism.

If anything, people who aren't the skeptics and take things as they are are the intellectual cowards because they refuse to question if God does exist or on any other matter. Those are the people who refused to speak out against Colonialism, slavery, racial injustice in the U.S., and the policies our respective governments have put in place. Those people are intellectual cowards because they readily accept things as the way they are and not raising questions of why things are that way.

Its important to remember the differance bewteen scepticism and realism. To be sceptical by default towards a possibility is lazy, yes.

I've come in contact with people who are from there. However, there is no one who can prove that God exists because we haven't had any first-hand experiences with this person like we've had with Aussies.

Christians can attempt to provide evidance of gods existance as an Australian can, plenty who can claim to have first hand experiences. Until I see it with my own two eyes I could be sceptical about Australias existance, everyone could just be taking the piss. However I have absolute faith Australia exists. Vast more faith than I have for Gods existance cos of course there is greater evidance, but it still requires faith. -
Of course. And I'm not denying that possibilty. My whole point is that its wrong to be sceptical by default to anything.
-
Nothing if you have no desire to do any thinking in your life. If its an answer you seek then do some thinking on the real situation rather than falling back on scepticism which allows you to brush things under the matt. Be realistic about things, but dont be blinded by your prejudices. An objective outlook is the best with which to look at an issue.

well, for me its one thing to believe in god , its another to believe in it as a book says, but id rather not think about how this or any world began (which , why is there no mention of any planets or other life, if god created everything?and if theres more than one god and other life, is there a convention for gods?), but i dont want to think about it because itd drive me insane, and id prefer to think more of how im going to live this life then how i got it
