Funny how I very distinctly didnt say that "everytime someone critizes American power its because of power envy".

George W. Bush
-
Your right i wrote that wrong. What i meant to say was that it somehow relates to american power. To be honest through bungling and what not unfortunately there are MANY different reasons for people to not like(let me rather say the american goverment).
-
It deos relate to American power. If America was a powerless country accross the sea that we could all ignore do you think their would be as much anti-americanism?Its the same as the large amount of anti-Britishness in the world, its a left over from our days of power. Power always creates resentment. Of course my initial post did not atall say power was the only reason. Look at the last sentance of the post for an example of my acknowledgement that there can be other reasons from people.
-
Ok fair enough. But then if you want to look at it that way everything will relate to power because it puts them in positions to do things that they could otherwise not.Say eg.invade iraq. But that doesn't mean they hate their power it could just be that since they've been there 30-40 people die daily because of suicide attacks due to them occupying the country.I didn't think i would ever say this but maybe the people living there were better off with saddam.

There was alot of Ant-Americanism before the 9/11 or the War on terror, its simply gained a different angle since then. Really, I was there, a 14 yearold in turn of the century Britain. We would all make quips about "fat", "dumb" Americans everynow and then. It was less channelled but there was alot of anti-Americanism.

Over the past decade America has become more and more useless in the world's eye. There was once a time when most of the world turned to America for technological and scientific breakthroughs but now that glory has been transferred over to Asia, as has first class luxury and holiday destinations. The labour force in China is changing how American businesses work. When once there were factories all around America that employed thousands, now there are only head offices that run sale predictions as all the labour is done over seas.America's biggest export at the moment is entertainment and controversy. The creators of the personal computers are now the creators of the personal sex tapes. (Now doesn't that bring up a lovely image of Gates and Jobs...) The country that defended the weak around the world have turned into an invading villain, storming through nations with an American flag in hand, leaving death and carnage behind in their wake. What was once known as the Age of Information has now turned into the Age of Entertainment, with 2 sides to every story and the most dramatic of the two always getting more attention. To focus on the good side is boring, nobody cares about the happy little Americans living their lives in peace. The world wants to hear about the nation that is fighting a government that constantly lies to the world and its own people. A nation that invades other countries claiming to be liberators, but are just wealth seeking occupiers who dismiss the fact that their war has killed nearly as many of their own people as in the initial attack that spawned the war.The world needs an enemy, without the dark there is no light. Currently America is the most publicly objectionable nation in the world, led by an unintelligent facist, a man who has not grown out of touch with his people, but a man who appears to have never been in touch with them in the first place. He was born with power, he abused it his entire life and now thousands of people are dying because of the short-sighted views of himself and of his cabinet.Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I wonder where everybody outside of America gets these ideas about what Americans know and think? From the actions of the government that the American public elected and re-elected.Are you saying that most Americans have a good idea of current world events? From where? CNN and Fox News? Not a large percentage of Americans read newspapers.
-
I love Fox News. I was watching them yesterday and for some reason they were calling Mark Foley a Democrat...
-
Anyone who has sexual thoughts is a Democrat. Republicans reproduce through mitosis. So, what good thing has George W. Bush done?
-
He has gone 6 years without answering a single question. He has avoided impeachment after breaking many laws that would demand it. He succesfully had legislation passed that clears him from ever being charged as a War Criminal. Those are good things that Geroge W. Bush did for George W. Bush.
-
He succesfully had legislation passed that clears him from ever being charged as a War Criminal. Not just him -- a lot of his people also. That legislation passed 100 to 0 in the Senate.
-
What ever happened to the good old days of presidential assassinations...
-
There was alot of Ant-Americanism before the 9/11 or the War on terror,There was a lot less Anti-Americanism right after 9/11. It didn't take Bush long to shoot that good will in the head.
-
In reply to: I wonder where everybody outside of America gets these ideas about what Americans know and think holy shit, turn on the TV. America broadcasts it thoughts 24/7 through news chanels that favor pundantry and opinion over actual news, right down the the edless stream of asingn reality shows where John Q Public gets to be himself infront of the entire world.
-
You should go into politics, SteveA...you answered a different question than the one I asked. One that allowed you to push your agenda. The answer to my question is, of course, the media.
-
You're so fulll of nonsense, you do know this right?
-
The problem is two-fold. First off, the post of his I was responding to is on the previous page...hence the appearance of my response being nonsense. The second part of the problem is that another poster would have to be willing to look beyond the end of his nose to see this.
-
I knew exactly what post you were responding to. The nonsense I was commenting on was not you posting a random statement out of nowhere, it was that you completely dismissed Steve's fully relative answer to your question. When the people of nation elect a government that starts a war, and then the people re-elect that same government after no attempts of ending the war are made, is it not safe to assume that the people support the war for whatever reasons? Altho it may not be true, it is the perception of the outside world.
-
that's a good point Bob. It's easy for us in closer proximity to the US to forget the "questionable" demoracy that put Bush in place both times isn't as well known world wide
-
In reply to: I love Fox News. I was watching them yesterday and for some reason they were calling Mark Foley a Democrat... that was the single most brilliant repair job in American history!!!
